i dunno this is a really cool experience in VR - if you've been playing Half-Life for a long time it's a tough pill to swallow

+it's very beautiful
+/- i keep getting lost
- not a fan of the bullet sponge/forced survival feeling of the opening areas
- i can take or leave the little electrician puzzles but it makes sense for Alyx's character
+ voice acting/immersive atmosphere - i AM Alyx

It's a super neat VR game and Valve certainly did their best to make it intuitive vs other games

10/10 Legend of Zelda for Adults

This is the closest you will get to Counter-Strike or DoD:S in VR.


The Good:
The Killhouse/Shooting Ranges - dedicated firing range and kill house for getting acclimated to the controls and improving skill.
Dedicated server support - easy to setup on Linux with steamcmd, custom maps can be loaded directly from Steam Workshop
Custom Maps - almost endless amount of custom maps for this game. community mappers have lovingly recreated maps from Halo, Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, CoD, and many more.
Simple/Intuitive controls - very easy to get a hang of interacting with your equipment. the buy menu is very intuitive
FAST load times - very quick boot up and load times (compared to Onward)
WWII update - The WWII update has been a lot of fun and I am excited to see this portion expand as time passes.

The Bad:
Offline Play - no campaign to speak of, only offline bot matches. The bots are ok on the vanilla/standard maps but it can be a mixed bag on custom maps (by no fault of the game devs)
Always-on voice chat - no ability to disable your proximity voice / mute yourself outside of disabling your mic from the OS. You can mute other players per-match, though.


The Ugly:
The Community - toxicity over teamwork in casual servers. lots of squeakers screaming, cursing, and spewing racial slurs among other NSFW language online. Keep in mind if you are buying this for younger players.


If you're looking for a popular VR shooter with a higher TTK than Onward, custom maps, and good attention to detail on weapons without going overboard - Pavlov VR is worth the price of admission

As a huge fan of Opposing Force, I was giddy to hear there was a Valve-sanctioned entry in the HL universe created by a member of our glorious community. Hustling to the store page, I read some reviews and was apprehensive at first glance. But, like any other Half-Life fan, my nostalgia got the best of me. "How bad could it be?" I asked myself as I shelled out the purchase price.

The First 2 Hours

• Stuck for 5 minute unskippable intro sequence
  
• Densely packed enemy groups. 5-10 Combine soldiers seemingly around every corner
  
• Cheaply implemented "scripted" environmental sequences that make you question your intelligence.
  
• Flashback sequences slow your character to a crawl, extending your play time unwillingly.
  
• Level design is basic copy/paste fare from pre-existing HL2 levels. I know, this is about Nova Prospekt....

My opinion is that this is likely to keep you busy/frustrated and surpass the 2hr refund window.
To be fair, I didn't ask for a refund. This developer needs all the money he can get so he can broaden his game design knowledge.


If you expect a semblance of coherent game design, do not buy this game. As others have beaten to death before, this game is certainly not worth the price of admission. This would have been a fun mod to play back in 2007, but that's it. If you are a fan of old-school, punishing, unrelenting torment every time you turn a corner... good luck, have fun.

10/10 would have "Bingo Fuel" again.
