While the performance and bugs are subpar, the story is pretty good and the game itself is enjoyable. They have to work on fixing the issues and making the open world feel more authentic though.

All in all a good game.

Currently the best tactical shooter out there. There is a huge emphasis on communication, teamwork and learning the different game mechanics while still offering a lot of fun. And the best thing is it gets better with every update and there is no greedy DLC policy. I recommend it!

Early Access Review
UPDATE:
Most of the client crashing issues have been fixed and the game is running smoothly for me now. I can also finally close it without having to restart steam. Server crashes still seem to be happening quite frequently though.

War of Rights gameplay is an unique and highly entertaining experience. The addition of artillery adds a new factor to the battlefield and makes the game even more engaging. I especially recommend War of Rights to players looking for a historical setting as great attention was paid to details such as regiments, uniforms and weaponry. I encourage you to buy the game.

Original:
Especially since the latest update introducing artillery, the game is in need of massive optimization.

The update has made the game client completely unstable and the game is almost unplayable at the moment.

In the few days the update has been live I have experienced many game and server crashes and glitches. In addition my keybinds have been reset every single time I have joined a server so far. Besides the crashes, shutting down the game is also not possible half the time, requiring to forcefully shut it down with in Task Manager or restarting steam/my PC.

As long as these critical issues exist, I just cannot recommend the game.

Early Access Review
UPDATE 31st Oct 18 after Melee update: the review is still true, after a whole year the game hasn't changed a bit.

--------------------------------------------------------------

I realise this game is in Early Access and will hopefully be improved in the near future, but I am going to just point out some issues and rate the game on it's current state.

Before I begin, I just want to point out that I am a competitive player, meaning a working melee system has the highest priority for me.

--------------------------------------------------------------

+++ PROs ++++

The graphics - really fancy.

The Naval Combat, which is quite enjoyable actually and the ships have proper physics, which is a very good mechanic at this early point of development.

Musicians, I guess, who doesn't like musicians? And the pieces you can play sound great.

Voice chat - has acceptable quality and adds to the atmosphere.

--------------------------------------------------------------

--- CONs ---

Just to say it, I do not mind factions or classes (like cavalry) missing at this early stage of development, however I do mind core mechanics of the game just lacking in terms of functionality.

Let's face it, the melee and melee animations are horrible. The melee combat is delayed, laggy and overall unenjoyable and unplayable. It needs to be reworked from the ground up and I feel like that is quite a chunk of work.

Looking back at Mount and Blade Warband (currently 2000+ hrs and counting) the competitive nature and smooth melee combat is definitely what makes the game so great and addicting.

--------------------------------------------------------------

My thoughts:

All in all I can say that for casual players, who are not interested in competitive gameplay, this game is fine at it's current state. Simply put: if you want nothing more than fighting huge battles and sieges together with a bunch of random people yelling in voice chat, this game is right for you!

As far as more competitive players, especially from the Mount and Blade Community, are concerned, I cannot recommend this game at it's current state, as it does not fulfill the requirements for such gameplay.

I have to admit that the game has great potential though, now it is up to the Devs to make something out of it.

--------------------------------------------------------------

PS: To all the fanboys saying "but it's Early Access reeeeeeeeeeeeee", think about past experiences.

DayZ was early Access too and now look at it 5 years later.

Early Access does not mean the game will necessarily be improved and it is definitely no excuse for core mechanics of a game not working properly.

(If the game is updated and fixed, I will change my review.)
