I saw this game on my discovery queue a while back (first time that actualy helped me find a good game) and bought it, as i thought it was gonna be a a funny "so bad its good" indie game, but holy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ i was hella surprised. so upon the first boot, it seems like just your average ol action adventure game, just another indie zelda-like, but NO.
its absolutely bursting from the seams with charm, all the characters are super ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cute, and the dialogue is something else, it is just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amazing! comedic timing is on point and the memes they reference are pretty timeless, and actually put in well.
the gameplay, while simple, manages to be engaging, as you do have a limited amount of moves you can perfrorm (just an attack or action and dash rlly) but the level design more than makes up for it. the puzzles are expertly designed, and happen to be quite fun.
the story, although it may seem quite nonsensical at first, happens to be pretty funny and has some twists for sure. the mechanic of ripping dicuments actually adds a lot to the story and is pretty fun. the cool little hats you can find are the only cosmetics, but i called them **cool** little hats for a reason, as they are actually pretty cool (and little), and can definietly make your lil turnip look pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dripped out.
the ost is just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amazing, and is definietly something id listen to outside the game (go listen to it on spotify), as it is super ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ chill and has some absolute bangers that totally complement the game well.
something the game's detractors say makes the game super boring and crappy is its size, as it is pretty short and simple (i just have 8 hours on it cause the endless dlc mode is pretty fun), but that is absolutely a positive, as it can totally serve as a short mental break from all those big ass triple a games, and can actually be a fun game for the whole family (grandpa would have a pretty fun time evading taxes as a turnip ngl).
overall, tbcte is a pretty fun little game that anyone can play.
