It was a warm summer november when I started my journey to play Judgment. Going in to the game blind I was expecting a brawler/detective type game, but I couldn't have been more wrong. Instead, what I experienced was many many hours of trying to complete the mahjong challenges, without knowing anything about mahjong; this was a foolish mistake. After some ten or maybe twenty hours, I finally decided to learn how to play mahjong so I could complete the game, so I spent another ten hours learning, then possibly another thirty hours playing & having fun & enjoying mahjong. Then I finally completed all of the mahjong challenges in Judgment, & suddenly I was left with a hollow, aching, empty feeling inside. So I searched for a way to continue my mahjong journey, finding nothing but mahjong solitaire games I was feeling dismayed in my search, but I persevered & eventually I discovered I needed to seek out riichi mahjong. In my delight I discovered Riichi City, & Mahjong Soul, so I spent a few days trying them both out before finally settling for just one of them. That one, was Riichi City. At first I was put off by the gacha experience of the game, as they are personally not my style, but I set that aside & focused on the gameplay, in which Riichi City does well. Comparred to Mahjong Soul, Riichi city has a more responsive UI, more QoL features, a more forgiving ranking system for new players, along with many more. So begins my journey into the world of mahjong…
