I don't recommend this game because it feels cheaply made (the controls aren't precise, the weapons aren't particularly interesting, and my character got caught on level geometry a lot) and there are far more polished twin-stick shooters out there. I recommend getting this game for $3 or less.

I liked Doom 2016, but this isn't that game. It is built to limit your options when fighting monsters, because each monster has a hard counter and you don't have enough ammunition to simply shoot your way through the game.
The missions are also padded with platforming segments that I find boring and that kill the pacing.

There's a recurring boss monster that I hate to fight, and it shows up more frequently as you get through the game. I don't want to play this one to completion because of all these issues.

Very much. I consider this a foundational game.

It's alright. Play cooperative for the fun experience, and then Mercenaries mode after you beat the campaign.
Playing alone is a slog.

It's really good and served as a foundation for later games like Dead Space.

At 15 years old, there's some clunkiness that will dissapate if you take some time to get comfortable with the controls.

I was expecting an XCOM clone and was pleasantly surprised at how much Mechanicus altered the template. This game is very different from others in the genre in interesting and novel ways. It encourages you to explore, and that failing missions is a part of the game. The units are very customizable and the characters show a charming amount of personality in their text logs.

Its a lot of fun to customize and unlock new ships. Setting up your forces and watching the battle play out is satisfying.

It's got excellent atmosphere and a solid story.

It's really good at simulating the tabletop. I recommend it for trying out board games you are curious about before buying.
