I recommend this game simply on the fact that it will suck you in after playing it for a little while. The mechanics are interesting and fun because you want to see your little game company evolve. That being said I think there is a lot more to be said about this game besides defining whether it's good or bad.

Game Dev Tycoon is interesting because it's a look inside the minds of developers at Greenheart Games. You see how they view the industry's comings and goings, what they think of reviews and what makes a developer tick. It's a tough thing to bring upon yourself, and there is probably a lot of criticism out there for it. There are things that are disagreeable such as a record breaking game in Game Design only getting an average of 4 from critics or the fact that I am still devloping games for Xbox One that involve 2D graphics and basic human physics. But there is also little snippets of nostalgia added into the game such as the day long partnership that Nintendo and Sony forged to create a console.

After that there is not much to this game, eventually you will get to a point where the dialogue is repeating itself and you click through it because it doesn't feel charming or unique. You may quit the game before you even reach the end of the console generations becuase you are so filthy rich and full of research that you don't need to see what is beyond that horizon. And if you do peek over that hill to see what is at the end, lemme tell you that it feels like it never ends.

Overall Game Dev Tycoon is not the greatest game out there, but it has interesting points to look at. The biggest thing that bothers me about this game though is that I have played something incredibly similar on my ipod called "Game Dev Story".
