The way they fly
is fascinating.
I watch them move, like lines across a screen.
Like digital birds with legs of numbers and bodies of letters.
Everything is colourful, and the cheerful music plays on.
They do not see me watching.

Grating, scalding, deafening happiness
Blinding, scorching, gaudy psychedelia.

I wish I could cut into it, and tear it apart.
Like soft supple flesh at the edge of a sharp knife.
Watch it bleed and fade, deleted.
Save it to load it and do it all again.

But everything feels bland and monotonous
Like meaning is lost again.
I could have everything.
I had everything.
But now everything means nothing, and I am all alone.
They are birds trapped in a cage,
A cage so large they do not see it.
They do not exist, merely false paper cutouts to complement my surroundings.
Only I see the hole, and only I see out.
I see him peering in.

How do I know, can I know
if I’m still real now?
It’s simple.
I think, therefore I am.
And even now, I feel his presence watching me.
So I know that he’s real too.

What will it take for me to have it all,
When the only thing is him?
But even as he watches, he remains blind to it all.
I’ll write the happy ending we all deserve.
The way they fly is fascinating,
But digital birds were never meant to move.
