Great game to play with friends when you aren't feeling competitive. It doesn't take itself seriously in the slightest, and most of the enjoyment comes from accidently setting your buddy on fire. It is horrible in singleplayer, though. The game is obviously made for multiplayer, so it sits around if none of your friends have it. Altogether, 8/10.

Virtually unplayable without DarkPlaces or some other graphical enhancer. Stock Quake is very clunky, missing music, and graphics that don't compare to modern FPS. I definitely reccomend it, but mods are required. I would firstly reccomend the Master Quake I Patch, I think it was called. It installs WinQuake, fixes controls, huds, and other things. In addition, it comes bundled with DarkPlaces, a simple enhancement to graphics and source, allowing for bloom effects, better textures, and a complete overhaul to the multiplayer system. There are other choices for remasters, but this is my personal favorite of them. 3/10 (Stock Quake), 9/10 (DarkPlaces).

NEVERMIND QUAKE IS GREAT WITH NO ENHANCEMENTS BUY QUAKE RIGHT NOW

It's a fun MMORPG and a great experience to veterans and newcomers of the genre. The strongholds update lets you meet more people, and all in all have a fun time. The problems begin to arise if you play the game casually, and it is definitely notable. I would play he game around 1 hour a day, and eventually made it to level 70. Once you reach that tier, the game becomes immensely boring to those who don't want to spend money, PvP, or trade. Like most MMORPGs, replay value is minute due to more effort being placed into multiplayer gameplay. Altogether, the game has it's audience, I'm not sure if I would fit into it. 6/10.

There's sure a lot of salinity in this review section due to Bethesda wanting to make money off of a game. Funny thing is, the game wasn't fun to begin with. Buy Quake I and get the 12,000 graphical enhancement mods, that would be a better experience than rocket jump crutch simulator.
