Early Access Review
This game inspired me to start investing in the stock market.

Today, I'm a millionaire.

Not because of my stocks. My friends and I robbed a bank after playing Payday 2.

Still, my investments are doing very well, and this game is at least partly responsible for that.

This is a very fun & easygoing game that really hits that particular "retro Japanese PC aesthetic" that I'm lucky enough to be familiar with. If you have even a casual interest in that aesthetic, stocks, or laid back gaming, this is the game for you.

Space Harrier, but with cute anime girls. Short, simple, five dollars' worth of game.

It's easy to tell when a game is difficult just because it's poorly made.

The people responsible for this game's final boss deserve to get slapped so hard it makes them cry.

A very faithful throwback to the simple, straightforward action games from the good old days of video gaming. Beautiful pixel graphics accompanied by a great soundtrack.

Keep in mind, this game is very challenging, with a steep learning curve. It's the kind of challenge that rewards perseverance. This means you're going to die to bosses more than once until you learn how to adapt to them, especially on the highest difficulty. Once you do, it makes for satisfying victories.

I liked this game, and I want to recommend it, but I can't do so fully. In particular, I can't recommend it without pointing out the big faults the game has.

-The game is very short. It ends with what feels like minimal exploration, and a not-insignificant amount of that time is spent backtracking.
-Once you max out your upgrades the challenge disappears. This was not only easy to do, but happened sooner in the game than it should have. Because of this, the last two boss battles were trivial exercises with no real urgency to them.
-The game ends with an abrupt cliffhanger. It was like the game was in a desperate hurry to get its ending over with. The plot may be YA grade, but that doesn't forgive ending with the equivalent of slamming the door in my face. Besides, I'm not going to pretend I'm too good to enjoy a YA plot.

Despite all of that, I really did enjoy this game. I never felt frustrated or bored by the controls or the boss fights, and there was a good variety in abilities and enemies. The characters were likable & well-written, especially Renard and Aletheia. I'm a big sucker for that "seasoned hunter" look they used for Aletheia, and they did a good job of it with her.

My recommendation is to wait and see if they ever make a sequel, then wait for both games to go on sale as a bundle. That's a Hell of a way to recommend a game, but I can't bring myself to recommend it any other way.

This is one of the most restricting and limiting city builders I've ever played. It's as if every decision the developers made was to limit how you could play.

Pick any Tropico game other than this one.

A visually stunning and intense game. It has a pretty steep learning curve, but once you get into the groove, it turns into one Hell of a thrill ride, and it stays that way all the way to the end.

The Moderator girl looks like Kodachi Kuno, and also acts like her.

A fun and challenging Castlevania-type game with a fun setting, a lighthearted tone, and an entertaining anime style.

The challenge hits a sweet spot of where it will give your skills a good test without getting too frustrating or punishing if you fail. The boss battles are particularly fun. Each one refuses to go down without a fight, which makes it especially satisfying when you find a way to counter their dying strike, even if you just end up figuring out how to do so the second time around.

Like any good game of this kind, it offers a lot to explore and rewards for exploring. The sub-weapons you get from advancing also serve as ways to find secrets and reach new areas. The game does make you go through twice, but it does so in a way that keeps it from being redundant.

This game is definitely recommended if you're a fan of of the Bloodstained games, but lamented their glaring lack of slightly tawdry seinen anime.

A metroidvania-lite, with a fairly forgiving challenge level balanced out by some challenging bosses. The friend-summoning mechanic is pretty fun, although you're going to use some of them a whole lot more than others. Visually, it's a very pleasing game, and the soundtrack feels good on the ears.

Definitely buy it if you're a Love Live fan, which you would be if you have good taste.

Don't forget to watch the Love Live anime. Not just the one this game is based off of. All of it. Every single season.

A fun and intense shooter in the style of Metal Slug and Contra, with a good 80s retro look and feel to it.

When I say "80s retro", I don't mean that they just smeared neon lights on everything and noodled on a synth for a couple of tracks. The game has a beautiful cassette futurist look to everything, right down to the small details. Instead of just dropping a couple of references, they built wildly entertaining themes around old movies and cliches. The top-notch voice acting only helps make the game as aesthetically fun as it is exciting to play.
