Hey! The name's Novalinnhe, but you can call me Nova. I use Steam to obsessively hoard games until the day comes when my laptop can run notepad.exe without melting. I also enjoy writing game reviews! :heartoful:

I've never played an idle game before, and stumbled across Bao Bao's Cozy Laundromat completely by accident. One of the developer's devlogs was recommended to me on YouTube, and I decided to watch it as I liked the look of the cute pixel art. The game's 'docked' mode was being demoed (where a miniature version of the laundromat sits on top of your task bar), and I hadn't seen that kind of feature before, so decided to wishlist it as I was intrigued.

The game released a few weeks later, and I bought it straight away. I was really excited to begin playing, but for the first hour or so I found myself struggling with what to do next, as the pace seemed so slow. I'd mistakenly assumed the game must be similar to a management-style game like Diner Dash or Lemon Cake; however my friend explained that idle games were designed to be interacted with very infrequently, and that progress would happen slowly over time - a bit like growing a plant. It took a little while for me to 'get it', but once I'd adjusted my expectations, I began to really enjoy the game for what it was.

If you're new to idlers like me, the best way to think of this game is like a cute interactive screensaver you can decorate. Unless you aggressively spend money or remove all useable items from the play area, your money will always increase as it's your adorable panda helpers who run the laundromat for you. Instead, all you are required to do is check back every once in a while; decide if you'd like to add a few new washing machines, plants or cats; then sit back and enjoy the relaxing lo-fi soundtrack while watching your creation come to life.

For someone like me who often has no free time during the week, being able to interact with a game that puts no demands on my time has been a welcome treat. I've missed being able to play games whenever I want (RIP childhood!), so I've really enjoyed being able to indulge one of my favourite pastimes with no additional stress. It's been fun building up Bao Bao's little laundromat (he's the regal panda that always walks, never runs!) and getting to experiment with all the new colours, plants and decorations that are slowly added as you expand/progress.

While I do need to mention that there are occasional graphical bugs you might experience, none of these should affect your gameplay as they're normally only visual, and seem to be regularly patched when reported. You can tell a lot of care has gone into crafting how everything works, right down to the pandas' fun little animations when interacting with different items (I recommend trying all the vending machines haha). There are also occasional community events you can take part in, which let you purchase special seasonal decorations - although keep in mind that these might slow down or stop as the game gets older.

Overall, I think this game is a fantastic effort - especially considering it's an early project from a small indie dev studio. :) So thank you very much to the developer for this lovely miniature experience, and I look forward to your next project!

Thank you! :Mirro_Love: I've sadly not much time for gaming these days but I do always enjoy reading what people think of games, especially those I'm considering. Reviews are a huge time saver when there's so little time and you really need to decide if a game is worth the trouble! :Furrowed: Have yourself a lovely weekend! :TreepileHeart:
