This is a great game and I've been playing for over a hundred hours now, but the price is WAY too high for this game. The reason it's not selling enough copies is cause people don't expect to pay this much for VR games. I get that this is not the typical 'tech demo' VR game, but you are ahead of your time on the price. 29.99 MAX. Wait for a sale.

ChilloutVR had always been the kid brother who was roughed up and had self-esteem issues. What happens when 5000+ people join a discord for modding it? 1000+ concurrent users show up out of no where? It becomes the hope for creative content creators and users in the VR social space. Along with their mod as you wish, but do no harm policy for modifications, a nsfw toggle that requires proof of age via steam, and a newly motivated staff and community you can come join and witness the birth of a world. <3

Yes it still has it's quirks, but it now has a hardcore staff on board, and a huge group of dedicated programmers in the public CVRMod Community https://discord.gg/ZCZxVVHkdh that I think are going to take CVR to places none of us can imagine yet. I'm looking forward to the ride.

This game has the poster child version of VR UI for inventory management and door handling in VR. ALL other VR apps should take notice. It's the finest example of inventory management in any VR game I've ever played (nearly all of the available ones). The game itself is optimized amazingly well. Some of the best technical features?
1) game can run minimized and WITHOUT needing to be focused.
2) game doesn't have it's sound turn off when it loses focus.
3) frame rate is AMAZINGLY consistent and high.
4) lighting effects work very very well for the horror aspect of the game.
5) no obvious bugs in the game and works really well (near perfect) with index controllers.

Some of the weaker points?

1) Some of the monster death animations (looking at you book tosser) are comically 2 frame flop overs.
2) The item variety is low enough that once you've seen the 20 or so items you can quickly know if you need an item and this takes away from a bit of the chaos early on where you need to check every thing's value.

The only complaint I have about this game is that there's not a sequel , nor additional content for it. It's one of the top 3 VR games I've ever played. (Everslaught, Alex and Cosmodread) are the holy trinity as far as I'm concerned for games that truly capture the essence of being somewhere else and feeling immersed.

POST-EAC Update:
I am going to be fair here, which may not sit well with everyone. But while there are still core mod features missing from the current iteration of VRChat, it would be very unfair of me (almost as unfairly as I was treated by them for working on my movie in their software) to not take into account all the progress they have made in adding the features that were taken away. I still have the intention to move most of my dancing streams over to ChilloutVR when the IK system is updated, but as there have been delays in my movie creation I see me using both systems going forward for the near future.

EAC Update:
VRChat made a large mistake adding anti cheat to a non-competitive game. By removing mods from the non-malicious users they have made us all more vulnerable to crashes, instability and actual malicious users who will now just bypass EAC. I remain in VRChat only so long as it serves my needs for making my film and dancing. ChilloutVR is on the verge of releasing their new 11pt IK system, and once that is in place I'll be there for much of my streaming. I'll be finishing up my movie in VRChat and then likely leaving. Which is heartbreaking honestly. It's been my home for 3 years at least and to be treated as a criminal for using mods only to improve a game the devs had pretty much abandoned improving... is...disappointing.

-----

VRChat has a really poor reputation of being just screaming kids and ERP all the time, and while that is part of the community, there's also 1000s of amazing worlds, beautiful avatars and adventures to be had with friends. I have nearly 10k hours in VR in the last 3 years and well over 80% of the best experiences I've had in VR have been in VRChat. There are worlds that have literally brought me to my knees in tears a the beauty and spectacle of their designs. To say that VRChat is my home in VR isn't an over exaggeration. I have promoted and brought dozens of new people into VRC who were scared by the tales spread. The key is.. stay in invite only and friends worlds until you are very comfortable with the environment, and for many people there's no neeed to ever visit public worlds. I myself have only been to perhaps 4 or 5 public worlds in my entire time in the game. If you need a tour guide feel free to contact me and I can show you the real magic behind the curtains. <3

UPDATED 7/25/2022 -----
VRC is on the wrong path. When I got banned for using camera mods in a private world everyone was like, "don't use mods then."... now, VRC locks down ALL mods for ALL people, and it's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ riot. About time the masses catch on to what a ♥♥♥♥ show the management of this platform is. I have promoted VRC for years and brought many people into the platform through weekly meetups and training classes. That's stopping now. I"m going over to ChilloutVR where they are accepting of creative people and while it may not have all the features yet of VRC, they at least respect their users. (FIX YOUR IK CVR!!!)

When VRC decides to pull back on this self destructive behavior I'll be back. Don't get me wrong here, I love the game, the worlds, the avatars... everything, but they are ruining what I love and I just can't sit back anymore and watch just ignoring it.

A wonderful game. The art style and music made me long for the road trips of my youth with the wind and the open road. The minigames are all _ok_, but there is one... One minigame to rule them all. AIR HOCKEY. It is the best on PC representation of air hockey I've ever played. It's amazingly responsive and the physics feel _EXACTLY_ right. But, yes, back to the main game. It's a journey and there are some sad portions, but with that comes some true joy and feeling of accomplishment. I know a lot of people just play games to pass time and whatnot, but when I play I treat is as I would a book and let my mind wander into the world the developers have created. If you can do this with Road 96, you will have a spectacular experience. I'm on my second New Game+ play through and am still enjoying the game greatly. Well, WELL worth every penny. Excellent job devs. <3

So at 5600 hours in, I think I can finally assess the functionality of this software.

Positive Points:
++ It's VR. It's 40-60% of my waking life for the past 2 years and I regret nothing.
++ When it's running it's pretty stable.
++ They have been adding some very nice management features in the beta.
++ Luckily it's great decent software since it's the only game in town for Index.

Negative Points:
It's semi reliable.
-- Sometimes need to restart the SteamVR app 10-12 times before it'll suddenly connect to Index HMD.
-- Lack of useful info in Status panel is daily nightmare. 7 Vive trackers, no mouse-over info. (So, for example
if I want to power cycle my left knee tracker, no way to know which icon is for that device. Unacceptable.)
-- Lack of way to easily send keystrokes or interact with desktop via bindings is a tragically non-integrated.
-- Itermittantly just decides to have framerate issues, with no clear way to tell what's causing it. Visuals will
look ok on the desktop VR View or in a given game, but in the HMD itself, stutters and jitters. Reboot PC
and it's all fine.. occasionally.

This is a perfect example of a simplistic appearing game having a ton of replayability, depth and wonderful gameplay. It's one of the best "sit and play for 30 min" games I currently own. I love the chill music, the graphics, the almost tactile feeling of the clicks and drags. Just so well done.

Well, I was going to write a nice review about this and how it had some cool features, but then I decided to uninstall it as I needed to do some other work on my PC and didn't want the customization anymore. DO NOT UNINSTALL THIS APP!!! It corrupted my windows registry entries for folders and drives. After trying to recover it for hours I finally had to do a system restore back to before the uninstall. So, here I sit with it installed and no safe way to remove it.

The core issue was that when it uninstalls it must not have kept track of what the registry entries it changed during it's injection into the desktop space. It caused issues all over the place. In chrome I could no longer click on a download and say 'open containing folder'. Many of my right click functions in Explorer were gone or no longer functional. The system restore did indeed fix it, but it took me hours to get to that point.

DO NOT UNINSTALL THIS APP if you are using it currently. If the dev has some input on the uninstall process and verify or fixes it to actually work, then perhaps it'll be worth the risk to try the uninstall again, but until then.... I really have no choice.

Previously I was defending this app as not being a virus.. but this is almost more insidious. Thank goodness it doesn't replace explorer completely and I can still work on my PC just leaving it sitting there doing nothing.
