Barely played this but I nominated it for Game of the Year 2024 so might as well give it a good review.

game too hard, christmas puddings now give me severe ptsd

Don't get me wrong, I love Poptropica and most likely forever will do so, however, this Steam port is horrible and I'm here to explain the many reasons why I think that.

Short Explanation:
This game is just a shell of what the original used to be, not worth your money and the only reason could be even REMOTELY worth it is because of nostalgia. Even on a 60% sale it still feels like too much for how little content this port has.

Actual Longer Explanation:
For this longer explanation I have multiple points I want to talk about so the following will be separated by Cons (since this port doesn't have any Pros except good music).

1. Huge lack of islands; this game has 18 islands out of the initial 62. That's paying $10 for a game that's missing 44 islands worth of content.

2. Literally no updates. This port was released in May 2022 and we've only had 3 updates so far; Bug Fixes in June '22, a patch for Mac players in July '22 and a "Small Patch" in January '23.

3. Cannot run in fullscreen. This one is more subjective as some people might not mind but if you want to play this game in fullscreen you are pretty much done for. No display settings options so you can't do anything about it.

4. Jade Scarab Island. This one isn't as self-explanatory as the others but to sum it up a month before this port came out the Poptropica team released a new Island to the original game's website: Jade Scarab Island. For some odd reason that Island (which was never made in Adobe Flash) has NOT been ported to this Steam. Straight nonsense.

5. No ads. For someone that has never played Poptropica before this might seem like a good thing but trust me it isn't. Poptropica ads were all over the place and I'm pretty sure anyone who's played the game before remembers at least one of them. The thing is, without those ads the game feels SUPER bland. Especially those little areas in-between real areas made for the sole purpose of showing an ad (yes, they kept those in an ad-free port of the game).

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is do not purchase this game. It's not worth it. If you want to experience your childhood game again just download the Flashpoint version since it has most original island and is the same as what most old Poptropica players actually remember playing (days before Monkey Wrench Island was even a thing). As another user named clamfunny said in his Poptropica guide, "Nostalgia is the most dangerous and insidious drug out there. A drug so potent, that it can cause you to spend $7.99 on a stripped down version of a flash game."

No piece of media has ever made me want to kill myself as much as this piece of ♥♥♥♥ so-called "game". If you're a fighting game enthusiast, have a couple hours on KOF, Tekken or Street Fighter and think this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is worth a try, STAY AWAY. This utter ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ "game" will syphon your sanity to oblivion and next thing you know the mere whisper of the word "Queen" or the name "Wu Shang" will send you into full blown psychosis. I wish this was a joke review but unfortunately IT'S NOT. This is a serious warning, do NOT give Brawlh*lla a try. Worst mistake of my life.
