When I saw that a Fairy Tail game was coming to the West, I was excited since I grew up on the anime and manga. I decided to support the franchise and pre-ordered the deluxe version of the game. On launch I had a small issue, but everything worked out and I was able to start playing.

The game play is super fun with the magic spells and leveling up. All great, especially how your magic spells level up and grow with you (though they eventually stop after your first time limit breaking). The cast of characters are all really fun, especially because I got to play with all my personal favorites. However, there is quite a lacking number of characters, that even if they weren't playable, are not present or are only a 2D image. It was quite lackluster doing the Second Origin scene with Ultear and Jellal with 3D models and Meredy as a 2D image that popped up when she spoke.

Storywise there was a lot cut out, which I get, you need to make the story shorter so that it can fit the game. However, it did skip over quite a few scenes that were quite important to the arcs that were portrayed.

Overall I want to say that the game was good for what it was, however, that all disappeared when I saw the recently added DLC. I bought the Deluxe, but now $160 of costumes have been added as well as a $60 Season Pass, the same price as the base game, that has far less content than the already pared down main game. I don't know about other people, but this is just outrageous greed. Half of these costumes should have been added to the base game, just as several of Lucy's Star Dresses were added as well as Erza's armors once a certain point in the game was reached. Let alone that $57 of the costumes are just recolors/retextures of costumes already in the game. The Season Pass is not worth the same amount as the base game for what you get, as well as the fact that the Season Pass should have been included in the Deluxe Edition even if the initial price should've gone up. Just to add, Code Vein (another game I Pre-ordered the deluxe edition of), was about $80 and that included Base Game, Pre-Order bonuses, AND the Season Pass. So yeah, I can't recommend this game anymore, even if you are a hardcore fan because they went from making a game to making a cash grab.

I'll keep this short and sweet. 10/10.

The story and characters are all astounding. I grew attached to the characters throughout the campaign and would go to extreme lengths to make sure everyone made it home alive, even if I sacrificed battle rankings. The best part of the campaign is the squad mechanics. There is a large roster of potential squad members, but it is up to you to build the squad. Meaning every squad will be different for everyone. Want a team of Lancers to blow everything to oblivion, do it. Want a team of Scouts to race across the map and capture the objective in 2 turns, do it. The soundtrack is also exemplary, any time I here the main menu music I feel ready to answer the call to protect Bruhl.
