Cozy 5–6-hour detective walking sim with occasional basic combat with a neat rural 70s Canada community and some Native mythos setting.

The simple temperature mechanic is fun, the sanity meter only affects ADS sway and stamina, it does not influence Carl’s perception of things. Vehicles handle fine, the truck is surprisingly detailed with its animations. For combat, there’s a couple of melee weapons and two guns, as far as I’m aware you can only find more ammunition for the rifle.

The story is good, with a surprisingly sudden but passable ending. It doesn’t wrap up as many things as I would like. Could have been done for the sequel’s sake, however I heard a lot of negatives about it. The amount of investigating you do have no effect on the story, which is a huge shame. Told through a third-person narrator with the non-voiced protagonist Carl giving his opinions on certain things through text in the environment. His character could’ve been a bit more fleshed out – for example: there are a good 5-7 mentions of Korea early in the game, and then never again. Besides that, the narrator and Carl’s thoughts are charming.

Visually, it’s very good. The outdoors is pretty, there’s plenty of good environmental storytelling inside the houses and cabins. You can easily tell a person’s mental state or personality based on their living space, and they all feel unique. The music is great and there’s plenty of natural ambience when outside.

Overall, I really enjoyed it. Wish it was longer. Even with completely different gameplay, it gave off the same vibes as INFRA. If you liked that game, you’ll like this.
