VIDEO REVIEW HERE

(My review is too long for the character limit.)

TLDW:
  • Beautiful visuals
  • Great soundscape, if a bit unmemorable with the music
  • Good mission variety in the campaign
  • Animated 3D cinematics mostly high quality, but way too character focused
  • Overall story takes a backseat to the character focus, too much telling, too little showing, antagonist and ending will likely make you cringe
  • Shallow, simplified gameplay compared to rest of franchise (linear tech tree, bland abilities, spam meta)
  • Unstable multiplayer offering that doesn't work half the time
  • Coop mode has good bones, but falls flat due to lack of capital ship access
  • Far too few skirmish maps, no live spectator mode, and replay mode is bare bones

Game of the Year.
It's challenging, with an excellent OST, smooth core gameplay, and no major issues at all.
All I want now is for the story to continue! I'll be a good demon and wait for that, but meanwhile will work on my level scores.

Unfortunately Halo Infinite is nothing more than a bled-out carcass of a once-great franchise.
343 Industries must undergo major change. Half a billion USD squandered.

This is a review for the Reforced Version.

SpellForce 3 combines the strengths of many RTS games and adds ARPG level hero systems to mix up the formula. Imagine Warcraft 3, but with the army size of SC2 and economic complexity of Age of Empires.

Overall Score: 9/10.

Campaign: 9/10.
A great story set in a deep fantasy world with believable characters. Play at your own pace and choose what order you want to do the missions in. Lots of optional dialogue, with great voice acting. Some missions are just an RPG with a hero party, others are that+RTS.

Journey: 8/10.
Just like campaign, but very limited on story. Feels like repeatable missions built for coop. And you can take your custom hero into skirmish if you like. If these were more unique maps, I'd have given it a 10.

Arena: 9/10.
Fun survival mode with just a basic hero and random items in shops. High score goes to leaderboard. Play alone or with friends.

Skirmish: 9/10.
There's 6 asymmetric factions, but in this version you unlock 3 - Humans, Elves and Orcs. They play completely differently from one another. Play with max 6 players in any combination, including free for all. 18 total skirmish maps.

Multiplayer Features: 8/10.

Replays, Spectator Mode, Ranked Mode, Leaderboards are all available. Hotkey customization is a little messy but gets the job done. Need better servers. If prior two are improved, this would would be a 10/10.

Graphics: 10/10.
There is no RTS on the market that matches the graphical fidelity of SpellForce 3 as of 2021. You will be blown away 100%.

Soundtrack: 10/10.
Masterpiece tier.

Bonus points:
Versus Edition allows you to play skirmish for free with 1 race and get a taste of the campaign with the prologue.

I'm going to be covering quite a bit of SpellForce 3 going forward. Be sure to check out my media below:

Fallen God's campaign is a sequel to Soul Harvest - I recommend you play the other campaigns first for the best experience. It takes a sharp turn in contrast to the base game and Soul Harvest, and introduces the somewhat alien and tribe-like Trolls. They're not any less relatable though, and the story is fantastic overall. Play at your own pace and choose what order you want to do the missions in. Lots of optional dialogue, with great voice acting. Some missions are just an RPG with a hero party, others are that+RTS.

It captures the tribal mood of the Trolls, and is great as part of the game, but not as easy to listen to on its own.

This is a review for the Reforced update version. Bear in mind this is a free product.

SpellForce 3 combines the strengths of many RTS games and adds ARPG level hero systems to mix up the formula. Imagine Warcraft 3, but with the army size of SC2 and economic complexity of Age of Empires.

Overall Score: 9/10.

Campaign: 8/10.
A prologue level is available for free, giving you a taste of the full campaign. Its story offers some context for the Burning Blood campaign, which you can play if you own SpellForce 3 Reforced. You'll get a feel for what the hero party-based missions are like, as well as the RTS missions, all in the 1 mission. The map is too heavily covered in foliage however, making it difficult to take in what's going on at a glance. The rest of the campaign maps in the campaigns are better, though!

Skirmish: 9/10.
There's 6 asymmetric factions, but in this version you unlock 1 of your choice - Humans or Elves or Orcs.

Good remaster that needs some post-release love: particularly controls, responsiveness, optimization, multiplayer menu features and spectator mode improvements.

Fantastic story and touching characters that feel very much real. Good length, too. The gameplay is a bit shallow and nearly on the level of a walking sim, but the beautiful graphics and soundtrack make up for it.

The Soul Harvest campaign is a sequel to the main SpellForce 3 game. I recommend you play that first for the best experience. A great story set in a deep fantasy world with believable characters. Skirmish: 9/10.
There's 6 asymmetric factions, but in this version you unlock 5 - Humans, Elves, Orcs, Dwarves and Dark Elves - an absolute bargain.

Masterpiece tier. On the melancholic side, as opposed to the main game's more epic tone.
