Another good game spoiled by "progressive" messaging and DEI. I tried to push through and ignore the constant pandering (even though it's immersion breaking) but couldn't continue once it was revealed that the owner of the bar in Hogsmeade is actually a "Witch in a Wizards body". A shame really, you can tell that a lot of effort went into the crafting the world and the game play is entertaining.

Challenging and unforgiving, you'll need to play through several times to get the optimal outcome. You will be punished for your failures, as it is possible to lose access to entire towns / trainers / vendors by failing a quest. This can sound undesirable initially, but there isn't much of an "end game" to the game, so rolling new characters and theory crafting are a big part of the gameplay. Sure, they have quite a few boss arenas that open after you complete the main story quest for your faction, but usually they are just damage sponges and not too different than their normal counterparts (albeit with a few tweaks that do make them unique). Character creation is interesting as you don't just pick a class and go. Your characters class is determined by the skills you purchase, and you can specialize (break through) in 3 disciplines. The equipment you collect is essentially the "progression" in this game, since your character doesn't level up, and basically become a part of your build. How well your skills and equipment mesh, and how well you execute your strategy for the build you create, determines how well you will do in the game. It's not just numbers on a spreadsheet getting larger until your numbers are larger than your enemy's numbers. Theoretically it would be possible for a newly rolled character with no skills and only a basic weapon, to go fight and win against even end game enemies (not likely, but possible).
My only real gripe with the game is the story / dialogue, as it is terrible. To make things worse, the dialogue choices you make have a major effect on the game, so you'll have to suffer through it and try to determine the game creator's logic in order to get a good reward. The quests / story seem out of place when mixed together with the other gameplay, I would have liked a more dynamic or event based system that would organically get you to far away places and dangerous scenarios. Also the survival aspects of the game need to be fleshed out more, I never camp outside of town, there's almost no reason to do so, and my food rots faster than I need to use it. Finally, and this is a pretty minor complaint, is there isn't an option to make an attractive character, either male or female. This might be the first game I've ever played where your avatar is a downgrade in looks / physique from reality instead of a projection of your fantasy-based ego.
Overall I'd recommend the game, and have gotten great value out of it. I purchased it on sale, but would say that it's worth the full retail price they ask as I've personally gotten over 100 hours out of it, and have many hours of game play left.

A great sandbox game, with some complex elements. Unfortunately there isn't much to do after you finish your massive ship you spent hours building. Of course though fun is what you make it, and the game give you the tools to make your own scenarios. Multiplayer can be a bit laggy if not on a dedicated server, but they offer the dedicated server through steam for free and is easy to setup and run, would highly recommend downloading the server tool if you plan on playing multiplayer with your friends.
