A while back I had a peculiar craving for a decent roguelite tower defense game to idle away with while doing other things and nothing really hit the spot until i stumbled across the Demo for Emberward. Despite having only a fraction of the Early Access Release Version's content it simply blew any comparison away through sheer power of polish.

Long story short I've spent many hours trying weird stuff and figuring out how to break the game in various ways and enjoyed every minute of figuring out and recreating interesting interactions and bugs. Most of the latter would end up fixed far quicker than any game with a single developer behind has any right to. Similar story with minor nitpicks like hotkeys for tower upgrades. That one took a few hours from introduction of tower upgrades to somebody mentioning a desire for a keybind to integration with and overhaul of the specific interface component and release.

If tower defense games tickle your fancy I can absolutely entice Emberward. It just feels good from the start and is already highly replayable in its current state.

No need to include speculation about future developement for for me to justify my endorsement, but if that has any meaning to you: Going by the rate so far it's looking very promising!

95% of reviews are about monetization, so this is too. Compared to all competition it is actually in a really good place at the moment. Significantly cheaper to play competitively than MTGO or Hearthstone once you stop believing in grinding for a year every 6 months. And casual play starts at only ~2$ up-front (value of packs may vary) since you can sell whatever you get from your starting packs and stick to free drafts.

Prismata is the best 1v1 turn based competitive strategy puzzle card game currently in existence and might well be hold a spot at the top of all those categories on their own as well. Think of playing Starcraft on a Chess board with a shared set of units from a current pool ~100 (to be expanded upon post launch) instead of an actual board.

After dabbling with the public demo client towards the end of the Kickstarter campaign over 3 years ago and eventually getting my hands on an alpha key this game quickly proceeded to erase an entire week from my life until I couldn't resist the urge to support the development on the $80 Centurion Tier. Thinking back I certainly underpaid.
