buggy as hell but a whole lot of fun

cute game, i'd give it a 3/5

pros:
-cute graphics
-fun dialogue
-enjoyable and relaxing gameplay (except for the robots with guns those are unfair)

cons:
-only 40~ minutes of gameplay

overall if you've got 3 dollars sitting around and an afternoon, give it a shot

okay so katana zero is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ masterpiece and i'm so glad i got it (SPOILERS AHEAD A LITTLE BIT!)

it has phenomonal pixel art graphics, ridiculously satisfying gameplay, and a pretty damn good story with great writing that alternates between funny and serious pretty well
the gameplay is difficult, but never difficult enough to make me get frustrated. it's immensely satisfying to play this game - from pulling off badass ♥♥♥♥ to just killing a horde of enemies so fast that you don't even know what the ♥♥♥♥ you did to pull that off. the gore is crunchy enough that you feel like you're a badass murderous super soldier mercenary and making every kill feel satisfying and crispy and nice, but not too gorey that it's just like "oooh, blood, edgy wow" (except for in the prison bit, which was still really atmospheric and well done).
the story is really well done as well, from the slow reveal of your true nature to the really heartwarming and nice moments with the little girl. i actually looked forward to beating the mission not to continue the game, but just to see the little girl and find out what fun interaction it'll be. the glitchiness and time distortion and all that ♥♥♥♥ are super well done, while confusing at first. i do really, *really* wish that the game didn't end as abruptly as it did. the writing is just.. so good. the dialouge system is pretty well done. although i wish there was more of an indication of the player actually saying what you say, like zero having his own dialogue box.
graphics are just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome. the special effecst are really nice, and the slowdown effect is amazing. every little animation and detail are just so well made and good and i'm running out of synonyms for good. the lighting is geniunely amazing. i also really enjoyed the little details, like how the ingame music just seems like it's what zero is listening to as he commits mass genocide.

TL:DR
OVERALL: 10/10
gameplay: 9/10, difficult but not frustrating (..most of the time?), crunchy and satisfying, do wish there was more deviation from the "wake up > psychiatrist > level > evening > nightmare > repeat"
graphics: 8/10, absolute eye candy, occasionally hard to follow
story/writing: 7/10, phenomonal writing, wish we got to learn more about the war and new mecca, great humor at times
bugs/specs requirement: played this on a (albeit very good and smooth) macbook pro, pretty much never experienced any kind of frame drop or bug/glitch

all in all, it's just so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good buy the game already
