Early Access Review
Game might be better now with the update, but the community is just as cringe as ever. It's weird, despite the size of this update and previous ones, but the game is beginning to feel like an abandoned project. The timing of the release was poor, and at its core, Marauders is a fun game that works when it works, but player retention has long since been an issue the devs have not tried to address, and should the game come to launch, I doubt it will change. The core playerbase is people who are worse at better games than this, and will let you know just how insecure they are as your screen fades to black, or go completely silent as theirs does, there is rarely an in-between. If you think this game might scratch your itch for a bit- it won't, so don't bother. You'll be left feeling just as disappointed as the families of the degenerates who kill you and scream ♥♥♥♥♥ after camping outside your airlock. It was fun during the free weekend a year ago, it hasn't been fun since, and it isn't fun now.

Definitely one of the few RTS games that really holds up over the years. There is so much complexity in the multiplayer, or even the regular matches you can play against AI depending on the nations against you. That said, the campaigns or even the overarching world campaign you can play is absolutely incredible. If this game came out this year it would be breaking headlines, as it is, its one of the few games I would have hopes for of a reboot or a sequel. The game is so simple, yet so complex.

I owned the original and bought this on Steam for the nostalgics. I love it. You would be remiss in your duties to not have this game in your library.

What. A. Game. I can honestly say it is one of the most impactful, story-driven games I've played since the first time I played through DA:O (Dragon Age: Origins), or Skyrim. The results and temper of your actions dictate the world around you. They dictate how factions and individuals react to the way you navigate the tempestuous world you're thrust upon. You really need to decide who, or what, you want to be when you step into the world, where you want your loyalties to lie, and the type of person you want to be, as your every choice changes the world, for better or worse. Tyranny is a game where choices matter, not only wholly to change the fate of the world, but to make your character,

I had a wild ride, and it is the type of game you can play over and over to figure out which decision was correct, or to grasp at the ashes of your choices, wondering if your path was the right one. You can decide from the offset what type of person you want to be from the very start. My advice (from a roleplaying aspect) is to decide the type of character you're going to play from the start of your campaign. The game is really tailored to the choices you make. WIll you be an unbreakable bastion of Justice, bar questions of morality? Or will you decide that the world is far harsher than you'd like, and play the hero? Or will you allow yourself to be swept amongst the conflict of others, to follow in their path, dictating their will? In Tyranny, the choice is ultimately yours.

Overlord or underling, chaos or order. Justice, or mercy. What morality dictates, or what necessity demands? The choices are yours to decide. You will have to live with your choices, or deal with their consequences.

That aside, I absolutely do not recommend the DLC, it provides no meaningful content or addition to the story. Which is unfortunate because the choices-driven narrative could have been expanded tenfold with additional impactful content. I do however, recommend the game wholeheartedly.

While I do love the game, I find it hard to recommend it based not on the merits of the game itself, but the price point and the ridiculously unabashed way DLC is rammed down your throat. I had the game on my wishlist for months before I bought it and after a pretty nice payday I decided to give it a go.

The game is great, the combat is super fun, engaging, but not in the edge-of-your-seat sort of way, more of a critical thinking sort of way figuring out how/where to move your fleets to minimize damage and casualties to your own fleet, and maximize those values to the opposing fleet. The base campaign gets better and better until it hits a brick wall - and suddenly you realize that the game is over.

But that's about where it ends - because its only great for a little bit. For 40$ base I beat the game in 10 hours and there was little to no other content past that. Other reviews have stated it and I'll parrot those, the game feels like a barebones base platform to force players to purchase DLC - but the biggest issue here is that the game doesn't have enough content to warrant a 40$ purchase in the first place. For the measly amount of content available at purchase the game should've been free, with the option to purchase additional DLC packs.

If you look at the model they take when releasing the DLC as well, you can tell this was a model set in place purposely to milk players for money while delivering unabashed mediocre content in return.

Because of this I've looked into a lot of their other games and it is exactly the same case - I won't be purchasing anything else from them knowing the games I'll be purchasing will be fed piecemeal behind exorbitant paywalls.

Trying to load into a game feels horrible on PC, the ui doesn't functionally work on a mouse and keyboard. Navigating is a nightmare, the equipment screen is a eye-vomit. You can't even scroll through half the menus. Crytek doesn't fail to disappoint "update" after "update." Do yourself a favor and do not purchase this game, it's not worth it based purely on the user interface. Genuinely.
