9/1/24 MOD CHALLENGE: If you have Civilization 6 and know how to make mods for it, check my top comment for details on my idea for fixing Gathering Storm's climate change problem. (I would make this mod myself if i knew how.) :steamfacepalm: If you build it & put it on Steam Workshop, please message me; as soon as i know about it, i will fave & sub it immediately. Of course i will also play-test it A LOT & then let you know how well it works!

2/22/22 at 2:22 am :steamsad: I downloaded and installed Civ VI Dev Tools in hopes of releasing my Alpha Centauri Map for Civ 6 on the 8th anniversary of the release of the same map for Civ 5 but unfortunately, i cannot get ModBuddy to work for even a project as simple as taking a single map file and making a mod with it that can be uploaded to Steam Workshop. This means that my Archipelago Duel map for Civ 6 also won't be created (unless someday i decide to make it for myself). However, if anyone reading this wants to try my Alpha Centauri Map, pm me with an e-mail address and i'll attach the map file to my e-mail to you. That's only necessary for Civ 6; my maps for Civ 5 are still available on Steam Workshop!

Since 2014, Archipelago Duel for Civ 5 is on Steam Workshop! It was originally intended to be a custom map for England vs. Japan because both of those civs would be at a severe disadvantage if played on a True Start Location Earth map (which was my norm for most games when i played Civ 5). During my testing of the original duel map, the expansion that introduced Indonesia (BNW?) came out, which brought to my attention that Indonesia is "in the same boat" with England & Japan and should be included in my scenario. To address this, i went "back to the drawing board" and built a 4-player map with the Celts also added as the 4th player. Though not technically a Duel map anymore, when the Celts & England civs inevitably team up against Indonesia & Japan, it still feels like a duel game, so i decided to keep the word Duel in the name of my official Steam Workshop entry.

On 2/22/14 i uploaded Alpha Centauri's Map of Planet to Steam Workshop. It's an exact replica of the original game's Map of Planet copied tile-by-tile to Civ5's WorldBuilder to make it playable on Civ 5.

Specifics for CO2 Lens: (read previous post first)
COLOR _ _ what tile does _ _ Examples
Dk green: absorb 2 or more CO2 incl. old-growth woods & Rf,
City Centers doing CRCP
Lt green: absorb 1 CO2 eg. 2nd-growth woods & Rf, farms & plantations
Grey: are neutral incl. burnt trees and where trees had been chopped
Dull red: produce low CO2 eg. 2nd-growth trees on fire, Nuclear PP,
current locations of fuel-burning units
Bright red: produce high CO2 eg. volcanoes on 1st turn of eruption,
old-growth trees on fire, and of course Coal/oil-burning PP (not going away but also not the only villain in our story anymore)

Details for my Civ 6 Mod idea:
*Naturalist unit can seed new Rainforest 3x before founding NP is its only ability
*Old growth Rf absorb 3 CO2 ea turn, woods 2, new growth both 1
*Farms & plantations absorb 1 CO2 ea turn except when disabled by weather
*Volcano CO2 output scales by eruption:
Gent= 100
Mod = 300
Cata = 600
Mega=1000
On the Global pie chart, volcanoes would get their own lava-colored slice.
*Fire: what a tile would normally absorb, it produces instead while burning
Burnt = neutral
*New CO2 Lens would color-code tiles Green/grey/red like Appeal lens

The overall objective: to keep the absorbing of CO2 at least equal to source avg.
Before coal power, balancing would be easy because fire/volcanoes wouldn't trigger new phases. The biggest difference it would make: instead of a city project that we unlock in The Future being the only solution to the problem, a natural solution is present throughout the game and all the Civilizations have to do is preserve it.

The biggest difference it would make: instead of a city project that becomes available too late being the only solution to the problem, a natural solution is present throughout the entire game and all the Civilizations have to do is preserve it.

I met a girl at a bar who plays Civilization 6, so this was my pick-up line:

Me: Would you rather have a neighborhood or a seaside resort?

Girl: Resort of course! Why do you ask?

Me: Because i noticed that you have Breathtaking Appeal!

I have used Secret Societies mode in every Civ6 game since its debut, and my default has been Voidsingers except when i have a special reason to choose another society. If you do the same, the following song lyrics should fit the theme as well for you as they do for me:

"These shallow waters never met what i needed.
I'm letting go - a deeper dive...
Eternal silence of the sea, i'm breathing... alive!

Where are you now? Atlantis? Under the sea?
Where are you now? Another dream?
The monsters running wild inside of me... i'm faded!"

Today (Mar 2, 2014) i tried to convert the My Earth map series into mods that can be uploaded to Steam Workshop, but ModBuddy doesn't like something in the maps and fails to create a solution. So, unfortunately, the only way y'all can play my scenarios is by giving me an e-mail address to which i can send any map files you request.
