Fun Co-op Game.

The Cartoon Network style was a nice change of pace.

Like Braid, Fez is an extremely relaxing experience. The primary puzzles are not too difficult, but instead draw focus to its beautiful surroundings, as the game tries so hard to give more than what first meets the eye. Fez wants you to focus on every little thing, kindly asking for you to consider a bigger picture, to write notes and solve cyphers. In return, it happily rewards you with more engaging puzzles and a deeply personal message that only an indie game can offer. For me, the eclectic charm of Fez sets it apart, weaving an inventive and fostered game mechanic, all while frequently turning around and tipping its hat to those beloved games that came before.

This is definition of a niche RPG. Because of its drawn-out length, deep complexities, and ocassionally insipid tasks, you must quickly get invested in its story. Otherwise, this game is nothing more than working as a disgruntled errand boy.

+Interesting plot that at least kept me interested
+Quality characterization and an ability to learn more about those that interest you
+Level of "difficulty"

-Really boring combat mechanics
-For casual players, high barriers involving literature, alchemy, and mythology
-Below average voice-acting (if you care about that kind of thing)

Haven't enjoyed a game like this in years. Truly refreshing to have a game made from such a personal, in-tune angle with such authenticity, perhaps even bravery.

First off, this game takes a lot of unnecessary flak. I'm not going to say it's a great AAA $60 fps. It's not. But it does have redeeming qualities that make it a fun experience worth about 10 dollars.

+Above average gameplay, shooting/engineering mechanics
+Great graphical style

-Terrible pacing
-Short levels
-Tacted-on story (erin-boy feel) and minigames

From Carmack's comments, I believe a lot of the issues are known and that the sequel will be an improvement. If they build upon the great aspects of the game, then this may become a top PC series.

Short: This game will never age out of its own greatness, but it is disappointing that the series really goes downhill from here.

Played offline, but still a CLASSIC that was a precursor to a lot of other great games we know and love! Replaying it made with wish that there was a game that combined these puzzles and strong characterization with Zelda's story and sandbox feel.
+some of the most engaging puzzles I've experienced
+realistic (but gravity/falling distance is SOOOOO inconsistent)
+believable and tight characters
+GREAT audio asides by the prince (like REALLY great!)
+quality graphics for the time

-repetitive combat
-annoying sounds when you heal (WHY CAN"T WATER JUST HEAL YOU COMPLETELY!)
-destination/goal always immediately obvious
-too linear without much plot
-this could just be the times, but my BIGGEST COMPLAINT has always been the lack of cooperation between Phara and the Prince. The cracks are such a ripoff!

Beautiful game! I mean really beautiful! The puzzles are known to be difficult but that's what really makes the games so rewarding. Each puzzle keeps in line with the atmospheric feel of the game. Fun for engineers who like to solve problems in wacky ways.
