Story: Dismal
Characters: Dismal
Gameplay: Badass
Music: Alright
Visuals: Sweet

Final Rating: Crazy

DmC overall was a very solid game. The combat was fun, stylish, and addicting as hell. It definitely feels and plays like a DMC game, and Ninja Theory did their best in making this game.

However, the lack of a Lock On button and the color coded enemies suck. The lack of a Lock On button makes it somewhat difficult to aim and focus on a specific enemy during combat. Say I wanted to take priority on a stronger enemy in a big group and avoid other enemies as I whittle away at the big guy's health from afar. Well, the Auto-Lock doesn't allow you to do that and makes to where it's difficult to focus on the enemy you want to attack.

Color coded enemies being the worst offender because one, they slow down the pace of the combat, and two, the fact that you have to use a certain weapon on a certain colored enemy restricts combo freedom. One of the things that defines a DMC game is how flashy and stylish the combos are, so when your options are limited in performing a combo, that takes away the point of the game.

Story was...meh. Just some rise against society type of ♥♥♥♥. It's been done before. At least they kept the theme of rebellion in, albeit in the lens of grungy street europunk. After all, anti-establishment is a big theme of that kind of music and aesthetic.

Characters were ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ boring. Most of the characters felt like cardboard, especially Kat, and the voice acting was a bit mediocre. Donte's voice acting felt dull throughout most of the game. So dull to the point that I can't even call him whiny or emo, as other people have stated. His line deliveries are flatter than a 3rd grade book report, resulting in Donte being just a Diet Coke version of Nero from the other DMC games.

(DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON VERGIL)

Music was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome. The metal and dubstep EDM type of ♥♥♥♥ the game had going fit the gameplay and aesthetics very well. Never Surrender by Combichrist is a pretty badass song.

Visuals were pretty sick. For a 2013 game, the visuals aren't half bad. The grungy saturated bloom effects when you're in Limbo, the way everything just gets ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up when you enter Limbo, the way the subliminal messages appear in Limbo as if you're in They Live, just good stuff all around. My favorite levels were the Demonic Prison and the Nightclub. Those levels had some of the coolest visuals in the whole game in my opinion. Even the character designs aren't even half bad. Donte's design isn't actually bad. Capcom was REALLY pushing Ninja Theory to do something different with the character, and judging from earlier concept art, we're LUCKY with what we got. He still has the dual guns, big sword, and trench coat with red accents, so he's just Dante minus the white hair (except when he pops his Devil Trigger).

Overall, I feel like DmC gets WAY overhated. I can definitely see why people despise this game, and honestly I can agree with those points as well. In fact, I completely DESPISED this game when it initially came out. But after a bit of time with it, I started to warm up to it and recognize some of its redeeming qualities. While this truly is a far cry from what DMC and Dante are all about.

But if you're REALLY going to call this game the worst out of the bunch, then you've OBVIOUSLY never played DMC 2.

Of course I'd rather be playing the mainline series games, but this is a game I wouldn't mind giving a spin every once in a while.

Fasted paced, hellish difficulty, and addicting gameplay. That and it gives off a Quake type of vibe
