Early Access Review
A fun and promising game with its potential cut short. After its acquisition by a prominent crypto company, Storybook Brawl now seems destined to end up as a test bed where crypto bros will test the viability of injecting NFTs into video game marketplaces.

Don't invest your time or money into this game. If you do, you will end up as a guinea pig for shady investors to data harvest as more and more exploitative NFT implementations are introduced and marketed at you. Already the devs have stated that "non-cosmetic" (i.e. gameplay advantage) NFTs are "on the table," just hours after the announcement of the acquisition. Imagine what would come next after those are implemented. Buying exclusive one-of-a-kind overpowered heroes? Paying for temporary power-ups? Some sort of play-to-earn scheme? There really are no depths which an NFT investor will not probe as we've seen by the number of scams associated with this "revolutionary technology."

I'm really disappointed with this outcome. I introduced this game to a lot of my friends and we enjoyed the time spent with it, but now I have uninstalled and I will be encouraging all of them to do the same. I really regret the $5 I spent on this game's supporter pack, when I believed I was supporting indie game developers and not a group of opportunistic vultures seeking out their next big payday by pushing a pyramid scheme onto their loyal playerbase.

Even if the player backlash works and NFTs are never added (which I doubt, as the devs seem very enthusiastic about this partnership, and this backlash was clearly anticipated, yet they proceeded with the deal anyway), I cannot in good conscience support a game owned by a firm that operates on crypto. It's a small consolation that this game will be de-listed from Steam if/when they decide to implement their NFT garbage.

TL;DR: NFTs bad. Avoid at all costs.
