I last bought and refunded it when it was in early access 2.5 years ago. (It says I refunded it, but trust me, I paid more for it this time, and I kept it this time). It had brutal full 1-2 second pauses for no reason back then. Now it's quite the polished experience and extremely unique. If you like an online FPS with PVP and PVE merged together beautifully, with extremely old firearms tech, and quite possibly the BEST use of in-game audio for tactical purposes, this is your game. Put the headphones on, shut your mouth (it has proximity based voice chat, so be quiet when enemies are near), and seriously listen to every noise you hear. It has saved my life many times.

My biggest complaint are the try hard users who always break the matchmaking because they dont like the way your character is setup. I've been called slurs and told to watch a budget build video, when I literally built a character a budget build video suggested. I also am not totally sold on the unorthadox gamelogic behind the standard bounty mode, of using "dark sight" to locate "clues" so that the boss is located on the map. I can tolerate it but the lore of it seems half-assed for the sake of competitiveness. But then again, the entire concept of "capture the flag" is silly game logic, and I dont hate that. I would almost rather a mode without clues or dark sight, entirely based upon audio for positional recognition of whats happening, but that might be taxing on the CPU. They do now offer a solo mode where you must be the last one alive essentially while capturing a point, and your low tier character will go on to be a free and well upgraded one. It's not a bad way to play without stressing over letting teammates down, but the odds are stacked against you at actually surviving.

I would also note that the proximity voice chat is awesome, but there's basically no downside to forgoing it, and just using discord with friends. Its practically a cheat to do so and there's no stopping anyone. It is what it is. I suppose proximity voice chat really only shines in PVE games. I wish more MMOs had it.

Edit: It must be said this game has the all time ugliest water reflections. I'm not being funny. I'd prefer Half Life 1 water this this. It reflects background sure, but also FOREGROUND and USER INTERFACE OBJECTS. Not only that, but it reflects them in some insane vertical smearing that makes no logical sense. People have begged for a fix for 3 years. They pretend there is no issue.

2024 edit: Still waiting on that engine upgrade. Hope it fixes water reflections. Would be nice if we got DLSS or some kind of upscaling to give us a boost. Unfortunately the game just keeps pooping out DLC skins and very little in terms of actual new content. The recent events have been kinda lame rehashes and remixing of certain guns. Nothing major. I have enough legendaries. I want new content.
