Early Access Review
Perhaps lost in the world of "this looks like minecraft." A great survival game. Very fun, with a surprising depth.

This game gets a really bad wrap. Could it's microtransactions be better? Sure. That said most the negative reviews appear to either be playing wrong, or never got far enough to be fair. The pay wall feels heavy for the first week or two, but lightens up as you go. Full disclosure I paid $10.00 as a noob but feel that was only a convenience thing, definitely not needed. In about a month of casual play I've beaten the story, unlocked the vast majority of characters and feel I'm competitive in endgame events. The $10 I spent went only to character slots, because I don't like to sell characters, but if you're more selective you don't need to spend the money, half my characters I never use.

People say endgame is just pvp. It's purely untrue. Endgame is events, some events are pvp some are competitive pve, usually there is one of each going on at any given time, or within a very short time of each other. there is a pay to win vibe, but since you can skip over any pvp match you feel unsuited too, with a little patience you can always get, not only a fair match, but one that prefers you to win. Some characters are in need of rebalancing, but they are already working on the worst offenders. Also events are by far the best source of currency, both endgame and premium.

Words of advice, never spend premium currency on anything except character slots, unless you are planning to buy some just to unlock characters. And never pay for 1 star unlocks regardless you will get more than enough very quickly for free. The daily login rewards are pretty good over time, it's worth playing at least 1 match each day for that. Try to pick teams that use a range of colors and synergize well. and level up at least 1 replacement for your big hitter so that you don't have to heal if you don't want to. Also characters with healing are nice for that reason. Heals also regenerate for free under 3, but it's very easy to build up a huge stockpile if you are careful in your character usage. I play a lot and never have less than 50 health packs, and I never buy them. And don't try to level all of your heroes just for the sake of leveling. pick a core team and a few replacements and stick with them. also keep in mind that 1 stars will be replaced, so don't level them more than you need to compete missions without having to heal them constantly.

All in all It's not as good as the first Puzzle Quest, but better than those that followed imo. Although it's obviously a different developer. If you can be patient through the slow going beginning without overspending you can become competitive within a couple weeks, definitely before you finish the story missions, and have a good amount of fun.
