Faithful remake. No gameplay alterations, or any bonuses from the previous re-releases, so don't come in expecting this to be the next iteration on FF1, because sadly it is not. Nevertheless, it's definitely Final Fantasy. Super easy to run, a great game for watching YouTube and quietly grinding. There's a pretty decent visual facelift here too. Also the soundtrack is the reorchestrated versions, and they are, as always, excellent.

Black Mesa is more than a Half-Life remake, it is a Half-Life reimagining. All corners of the game have been retooled to be more dramatic, atmospheric or immersive for the player. It's the little things that go the farthest, and Black Mesa spends a lot of time focusing on the little things in every environment. This aesthetic and attention to detail is what makes Black Mesa such an amazing experience. It takess Half-Life's somewhat comedic shooter 'area 51 emergency' image and adds a dash of escape horror which was somewhat lacking in the original. Several parts of the game have been expanded, redesigned or outright removed and replaced with other content (see "On a Rail", and the Xen levels), all building upon Black Mesa's careful atmospheric balance. The soundtrack is phenomenal, good usage of different instruments to convey different forms of tension or atmosphere. To top all of this off, there is an active steam workshop community, and if you are a fan of the Half-Life series you'll be pleased to know a lot of mods are tiny little tweaks to make Black Mesa just perfect for you. You can add Shepherd to the Lambda Core, you can add Breen to the opening tram segment, you can change ammo box textures to be consistent with what they were in Half-Life. Black Mesa is a product of years of hard work and dedication from fans who love Half-Life, and just want to see more of it. The fact that Valve approved Black Mesa for Steam is an incredible thing, making it ascended fanwork, and it deserves all of what you are paying for it.

If you die, that's your fault. I don't really care how 'hard' a game is hyped up to be, as long as I feel like it's my fault that I died, even a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ gamer girl like me can and will beat it. If your game can't even do that, it's not as good as Dark Souls III.

This game is therapeutic. Even if you aren't doing the missions, simply exploring the gorgeous vistas of this game along winding roads and stretching highways brings a freeing tranquility. This, packed with a fantastic and active modding community makes for a truly special experience.

Good game, really fun to play with friends, but filled with bugs.
Gets repetitive, and 3-4 player modes are nearly unplayable.
Supposedly has a server-lag issue, wherein people claim to be on the other side of a level and be damaged.
Can't begin to tell you how many times I've been accused of unfairly winning.

tldr;
- Physics objects bug out and stay for some people after level switch
- Three to four player competitive is practically unplayable without running into bugs
- Little variation to levels
- Guest-Host inconsistensies.

Fix the bugs, and you have a fantastic game!

In November of 1998, Valve Corporation, in partnership with Gearbox Software, released a first person shooter titled Half-Life, it ran on a modified version of the Quake engine, known as GoldSrc. The game received critical acclaim getting a 9.4/10 from GameSpot, and 5/5 from Metacritic, the shooter title was revolutionary to it's genre, and influenced countless other shooters like it. The game spawned 3 whole expansions: Half-Life Opposing Force, which focused on a character named Adrian Sheppard, one of the enemy soldiers during the first game. Half-Life Decay, which was unique in that it was a two player co-operative game exclusive to the PlayStation 2 port of the first game, the game focused on two characters during the events of the first game, Gina Cross and Colette Green, trying to escape the Black Mesa Facility.
And Half-Life Blue Shift, which focused on a security guard named Barney Calhoun during the events of the first game, attempting to escape the Black Mesa Facility, this game also came bundled with an HD texture pack that was compatible with the first game.

Finally, in 2004, a new Half-Life game was released, and was a sequel to the first game, rather than an alternate perspective of the events of the first game. The game honestly looks better than most AAA games nowadays, which is an excellent feat for a game released in 2004. The game had an incredible story, and a very long development cycle, the game is almost completely different from it's beta, and for good reason. The beta of Half-Life 2 was leaked before it's release, the beta was extremely buggy, and recieved astoundingly negative reviews from critics. This caused Valve to have to redevelop the entire game from scratch, and what we got was a masterpiece. This game actually has a surprisingly underrated soundtrack, and I think that's because it doesn't actually interrupt the game, well, at all, the music blends perfectly with the gameplay, to make the two assets go hand in hand, essentially hyping the player's enjoyment of the moment even more. The game doesn't force the fact that it's a shooter either, it feels more like an adventure most of the time, and they don't really force you to shoot anyone too often, and if you're ballsy enough, you can most likely rambo the situation, and run like a mad man. Half-Life 2 can only be summed up in one word, sexy. Half-Life 2 gets a 9.6/10
