Blizzard has unleashed the true opinions of the fans now that they've made the terrible decision of releasing this on steam.
This game was doomed since the day that it was announced. Literally all they had to do was to start updating the original game, as that one was actually fun and wasn't riddled with insane microtransactions. Even most mobile games have better monetization

This is my first proper final fantasy game after playing a fair amount of other square enix games. I kept my expectations fairly neutral after reading up on the reception of the game, which was the right call in retrospective.

The world, landscapes, lore and overall feel was cool, i liked the "Texas" feel of it mixed with fantasy elements. Also the venice-like city is really pretty. Characters were good for the most part, the main party has nice synergy and funny banter (he came up with a new recipe), it makes up for some of the holes in the story, which it has plenty of. The graphics are pretty good, mind that this review's been written in 2023 so some games are starting to push fidelty to new heights, but this game still holds up pretty nicely.

Soundtrack is amazing, nothing else to say on that subject, it's just banger after banger.

The gameplay was OK. The combat feels nice and plays pretty smoothly, there's alot of monsters and enemies you can find and decimate for your pleasure. The car was annoying, i found it to be too damn slow. The fast travel system is irritating as well and together with the car there were just too many unnecessary animations and bits of repeating dialogue that lenghten what should be a fast option to get around. The sidequests were super boring, just felt like a chore with little to no reward. The only i bothered doing were the dungeons and the ones to make the car faster.

My main problem with this game was the story and storytelling, it felt so uneven, especially after chapter 9 , where the game went to oblivion with its pacing. Like, on paper the story is interesting and has the things you would come to expect from a JRPG, but the execution is really bad, it felt super rushed. The DLCs make up for some of this in my opinion, but it still felt weird.

Overall i think if more work had been put in the storytelling then this game would've been amazing, that and some QOL stuff regarding the car. I still recommend this game as it still was pretty fun, and in the end that's what i'm looking for in a game.

Very complex strategy game which will take some time to learn all of the mechanics. Definitely for the hard-core strategy fan. As of writing this i have 800ish hours logged in and i still have some issues with the navy section of the game.

Apart from that, it's an insanely addicting game that allows you to use the WW2 setting to alter history in many ways. I found myself playing the same nation over and over just to see how many paths one can follow. It also has an incredible modding community that ranges from simple QOL changes to complete overhauls that can change the game completely (i'm looking at you, OWB :D ). Defenitely give some of the mods a try after you get the hang of the game.

The devs regularly release new content and expansions that, for a pretty steep price, enhance the game experience and add new mechanics to get into. The vanilla experience feels a little empty without all the dlc which can cost a fortune if you don't buy them while on sale, typical paradox stuff.

That's about it, despite the pricing of the dlc and the complexity, i found myself enjoying every hour i've spent in the game a lot, definitely one of the best strategy games out there. Highly recommend!

Word of warning, you will get addicted, you might not set foot outside your house for a long time. You have been warned.

Easily the best F2P shooter out there, if you can handle the grind. It's quite overwhelming at first, but once you get the hang of the various systems and mechanics it becomes a really really great experience.
