also known as Armagetron Advanced, this game is an playable recreation of the Lightcycles sequence in the original Tron movie from 1982. as an open source fan project, i had many hours of fun with it before it came to Steam on my first laptop running Linux over a decade ago, it being one of the few good, easy to run (and free) games on the platform before Valve changed gaming on Linux forever. it's still quite fun, and absolutely worth checking out for an afternoon or something with friends. you can play online, over LAN, or as i originally enjoyed it with my friends, huddled around a single keyboard used to control up to 4 local players splitscreen. you can probably hook up multiple gamepads and map them with Steam Input nowadays though, if that's more your style. the settings are a bit weird to figure out by today's standards, but there are guides on Steam to help you with all that too if you need them. enjoy this piece of history!

as a huge fan of Superbrothers' previous audiovisual experience, Sword & Sworcery EP, JETT: The Far Shore was the only game to ever tempt me into getting a PS5, being in one of the system's earliest showcases. it was the only game that tempted me to buy a game on EGS. but i waited, and it came to Steam finally this year along with the second half of the game i didn't know was missing, Given Time, as well as many optimizations to make sure it runs well on the PC platform. i'm glad i waited, and i love the game, though i haven't played much of the second half still, as it's more open world, and i'm not as big a fan of that as most people, but for those who are, that's good news, i suppose. anyway, this game ended up being all i wanted and more, and a hugely more ambitious project than the devs' previous game, in very much a positive way!

go buy and play this game. the best game Shu Takumi (creator of the Ace Attorney series) has made, one of the best visual novels of all time, and the best dog in any media ever! check out the demo if you must, but please, this game is worth your money, believe me.

Uchikoshi still out there making great games. could've been better if they could've made it a true sequel including mandatory spoilers from the first game, there's a few cases of character growth stagnating. great twist, as usual. as of writing this review, i've only played the Switch version for a few reasons, but i'm looking forward to enjoying this again later on when i go to get all the cheevos.

good game, but not for everyone. i feel like i got my money's worth despite the relatively low amount of content. really enjoyed the story and random dialogue telling it, really enjoyed just wandering around in and exploring the various non-euclidean playgrounds. really enjoyed that i didn't get motion sick while playing it, and actually kinda enjoyed that about an hour after each play session, looking at lines of text (like a chatroom, book, whatever) made them wave around a bit in what i'm calling a mild non-euclidean-space withdrawl. 10/10, exactly the game i needed, and the first game to make me really want to get into VR (i just played normally, but i'd love to play again that way).

i mean, it's RetroArch, but on Steam.

if you have some ROMs from, say, SEGA Mega Drive & Genesis Collection, Atari Vault, or any other game here on Steam that packages plain ROMs in it (even a new game designed for retro systems, like Micro Mages, Tanglewood, or Lizard), and you absolutely /have/ to play them on Steam, it's probably better to play them on RetroArch.

or say you have some PS1 game disks, but you're selling your existing PlayStation console to buy a PS5, but you're upset about it not having backwards compatibility beyond PS4, this is also for you.

sure, you won't be able to get integrated achievements, but you'll get a set of much better features, like rewind, plenty of savestates, good looking CRT filters, etc.

if i have any complaint, it'd be that there may be too /many/ features, which can make the menus a bit clunky.

anyway, RetroArch is an amazing example of open source software, so you can also get it elsewhere for just about any platform imaginable.

Steam is just one more.

This may not be the best Visual Novel ever (though, Famitsu would disagree with me there, as this is one of the very few games to get a perfect score of 40 by them), but boy, does it have heart! I was a bit put off before buying because i wasn't sure i'd like the "art" style (or rather, lack thereof, it's mostly still photography), but it's actually really professionally done and some creative shots, and i grew to like it in the end, so don't let that discourage you. This game has an interesting mechanic where you play as multiple protagonists as their stories intertwine with each other, and your choices with one may affect another directly, or more often, indirectly. It really tells a grand story that i don't know if it could be done in any other medium. Anyway, there's just something about this game with it's silliness mixed with seriousness that makes it really enjoyable, especially if you're going to try to get all the endings. It's ridiculous in the best way possible, and the creator's definitely knew it. All in all, if you're looking for a fun VN to enjoy, and you're already a fan of the genre and haven't played this one yet, 428: Shibuya Scramble is definitely worth picking up.
