A perfect game for a very narrow audience. Outside of that audience, it would require someone to be very committed to getting involved in platform-fighters or be brought on board by a friend. This game does not have a compelling single player experience yet. Until there is more added outside of online vs matchmaking, I can only recommend the game to people who know exactly what they are getting.

The original Rivals of Aether had SUPER fun single player content that makes it a worthwhile offline purchase alone and I am excited to see that return to ROA2. The roadmap and explosive early success make me very optimistic so this will be updated as soon as we see some of that casual content.

thank you dan for melee 2

So many ways to play and all of them make you feel clever or clutch. Going into seemingly impossible encounters and somehow finding the way through leaves you astonished. If there's a style you find you really enjoy, you can take your character and play exclusively around that. Somewhat of a hidden gem and definitely criminally underplayed.

Rip crashing the brick into every ship and winning in 10 seconds every mission, gone but not forgotten.

Amazing puzzle game that, by the end, has you spinning many plates at once. Nearly one-of-a-kind and makes you want more games like it, satisfying and full experience!

- Overly successful launch poorly communicated and managed
- Drip content is unpolished and enters the game untested, passed off to be surprising
- Unique feature of mass player contribution is ultimately puppeteered and an illusion
- Balance and feedback is kneejerk and emotional, dev representatives are hostile about criticism

While these things all have valid explanations, they will never change and have eroded my faith in the product. It is almost tragic that the game is so fun to play. potential to come back with my hopes up again later and leave more disappointed.

Years after release they force the game to open through the 2K Launcher (???) and have you sign a EULA that says they will collect your toenail clippings and legally create clones of you if you want to play the game.

Played through the demo and enjoyed it a lot, have to really enjoy some of the classic trading sims to like this type of game. Been looking for a modern version of Tradewinds and this gets REALLY close to that. Gonna update once I'm a bit further to see if it's really worth it.

edit: if the demo is available still, check that out first because the early game is the exact same start as the demo and the game is just more of whats going on there.

I have waited my whole life to buy this game. Gonna take just as long to learn how to play it.

It feels dense and ever-hostile in a way that pulls me out of the experience to wonder if it is made this way to prevent you from getting through it too quickly. I did not put enough time into the game to feel that it is confidently unsuccessful. That being said, I spent enough time wrestling with clunky and outdated survival game basics that the game burned through all the good will before it could sell me on spending any more time with it. This game is definitely good for someone, just be aware that tedium becomes the focal point eventually over any intended high points.

It has the depth of a classic xbox arcade game. If this is/was your jam, then this is good to go for you. It is lacking the substance that makes some of the great roguelikes of our lifetime. In this instance, that would be variety. Everything is there except the content. I am truly hoping that the team that made this can keep building on this foundation because the systems here play really well with each other. It is very hard to put down once you're playing, the only problem is a feeling sameness from run to run.
