This game instilled a lasting fear of horror games in me. I vividly remember when it was released in 2001, I was just 10 years old and would watch my dad play it. The experience terrified me so much that I often had nightmares and would sleep in my parents’ room out of fear.

Fast forward 23 years, and I still feel a rush of anxiety when playing horror games sometimes I find it nearly impossible to play them alone. When I learned about the remake of Silent Hill 2, I was initially skeptical. However, after reading early reviews, I decided to confront my fears and pre-order the game.

Now, 12 days post-release, I'm actively working through my phobia and playing the game. The atmosphere is incredibly intense, and the graphics are stunning, making for an unforgettable experience.

Here is my story with Cyberpunk 2077:

In 2020 i built a high end gaming PC (I7 10700k, rtx 2080 super, 32gb ram) in preparation to play Cyberpunk 2077, the game released and i saw the reviews and was so disappointed, so i decided to download a Cra*ked copy, i played it enjoyed it, and didn't encounter lots of bugs but it didn't live up to my expectations, in 2022 i bought it for PS5 but i wasn't satisfied and sold it, a couple of days ago i saw the ultimate edition on sale for around 55$ which is a hefty price but after how the developers redeemed themselves i thought what the heck lets buy it and i pulled the trigger, i can safely say this game is amazing now, its exactly what i expected on release 4 years later :), (ATM Playing on i9 14900k, rtx 4080 super and 64gb ram)

Atmosphere and Visuals: One of the game's strongest aspects is its atmosphere. The environment is designed to be unsettling, with repetitive and claustrophobic settings that play into the feeling of being trapped in an endless void. The use of lighting and sound enhances this sense of dread, creating a palpable tension. The visuals may not be hyper-realistic, but they effectively convey the game's eerie and unsettling tone.

Challenges and Puzzles: The puzzles and challenges in "Escape the Backrooms" are designed to keep players engaged and on edge. The puzzles often require careful observation and problem-solving skills, while the random generation of rooms can make each playthrough feel different. The difficulty can vary, with some puzzles being straightforward while others require more lateral thinking.

Replayability: Given the procedurally generated nature of the levels and the random elements, the game offers a decent amount of replayability. Each playthrough can present new challenges and experiences, which helps maintain interest over time.

Criticisms: Some players might find the game’s repetitiveness wearing, as the core environments don’t change significantly. Additionally, the lack of clear direction or guidance can be frustrating for some, as it can lead to feelings of aimlessness.

Overall, "Escape the Backrooms" is a compelling experience for fans of horror and survival games. Its ability to create a consistently eerie atmosphere and the challenge of navigating its endless maze make it an intriguing choice for those looking to test their nerves. If you're into horror games that focus more on psychological tension than action, this one might be worth checking out.

Visuals and Art Design: Control excels in its visual design, creating a strikingly atmospheric and surreal environment. The game's setting, the FBC’s mysterious and shifting headquarters known as the Oldest House, is a masterclass in architectural design and ambiance. The use of lighting, reflections, and dynamic environments contributes to the game's immersive quality, making exploration both visually stimulating and eerie.

Gameplay Mechanics: The gameplay in Control is a standout feature, blending action and exploration with supernatural powers. Players assume the role of Jesse Faden, who wields telekinetic abilities that allow for creative combat and puzzle-solving. The fluidity of the combat system, combined with the ability to manipulate objects and the environment, offers a dynamic and satisfying experience. The game’s power progression and skill tree further enhance the sense of empowerment and variety in gameplay.

Story and Narrative: Control presents a captivating narrative steeped in mystery and intrigue. The story unfolds as Jesse Faden investigates her brother's disappearance and uncovers the secrets of the FBC. The narrative is enriched by a range of documents, audio logs, and environmental storytelling that deepen the lore of the Oldest House. The writing is both enigmatic and engaging, encouraging players to piece together the intricate plot and its connections to the larger universe.

Technical Performance: The game is generally well-optimized, with smooth performance across various platforms. However, some players have reported occasional issues with frame rates and minor glitches. These issues do not significantly detract from the overall experience but are worth noting.

Overall Impression: Control is a standout title that offers a distinctive and immersive experience. Its combination of a unique setting, innovative gameplay mechanics, and compelling narrative creates a memorable adventure. Despite minor technical issues, the game is highly recommended for fans of action-adventure titles and those who enjoy games with a strong atmospheric presence and engaging storylines.
