We Were Here Forever expands on the three previous games before this and creates a far more accessible and enjoyable experience. None of the puzzles really seemed as difficult as the hardest Together puzzles, but at the same time, none of the puzzles were as flawed as the Together ones. Overall, the difficulty curve is far more consistent. The world is beautiful, with an art style that is both eye catching, but kind to my GPU. It has a far more "open-world" feel, with the need to go back to previously explored spots (I'll keep it at that to avoid spoilers).

There are certain things about this game that are missing compared to the previous games (which personally is to its benefit). There are infinitely less "mix and match" puzzles that require stupidly detailed descriptions of symbols that make no sense. These puzzles were designed with the intent to make both players simply learn, and once they've learned the trick, they can figure it out and finish. That design choice is intuitive and goes a long way to support the pacing. The game does not need to constantly separate you to make a puzzle difficult, which is refreshing. The moments of separation actually matter, and is not just an expectation. Your partner FEELS like your partner, because you're consistently with each other, playing rock paper scissors, or just doing some other silly thing. Overall, highly recommend this game.

The biggest compliment I can give this game is that I have finished it twice and still going.

You don't need a review. Just get the game.

Dying Light 2 improves on everything good about the first game and doesn't do much else. 7/10

STORY:
The narrative drive is weak and the characters - weaker. Aiden is a boring blank slate, which I guess is for the player experience, but it doesn't work in this game and it doesn't work in many other AAA games. The main villain and your own sister are pointless. It might have been better to throw you into this world and just let you do your own thing. The game consistently tells you to care about your sister, but why? Just simply being family is not enough to get me to care. Characters often fall into common tropes and caricatures. These aren't necessarily problems, but the game never delves deeper into most of them and often drops characters arcs in the middle of you actually beginning to care - never to be picked up again. For a game that promotes story and choice as heavily as this does, there is a surprising lack of both. Choices do not matter at any point in this game, not in side quests or main story. They have no effect on the world, the story, or even your own character. You can choose to save characters or kill them, but it ultimately doesn't matter. They'll never be used in the story again, not even for side quests (you can't talk to them either). Side quests...suck. They really help you understand the importance of quality>quantity. Just give me quests that expand on the current cast of characters. Is there any point introducing me to a grandma with the same character model used in other side quest cut scenes and never seeing any of these people again? Even the guild quests are lackluster at best. They do not offer anything worthwhile - no special zones, special gear, special items, not even a fun experience. They sometimes actively work AGAINST the game. Doing the carriers' guild and book club quests show you just how many environment reskins exist indoors. And yes, there are character reskins as well. I don't care much if these exist for random npcs scattered around the world, but the game reskins npcs that they dedicate multiple cutscenes and give dialogue to. Your choice to side with the PK or survivors basically doesn't matter because of everything else. They unlock fun gameplay mechanics for Aiden's personal experience and unlock side quests for the area...but because they suck...

GAMEPLAY:
As for everything the game does well? Parkour is a highlight. I'd even go as far as saying it has the best parkour system of any game ever made. The world is perfectly designed and handcrafted to work alongside it. Everything you unlock improves on this entire system tenfold. Combat is tight and landing a critical hit with a mod never feels repetitive. All the weapon types are actually useful, which is a rare sight in an rpg. Consumables are needed to tackle hordes of zombies and humans alike. Weapon modifications are a NECESSITY. Stats you have on gear will make you tackle situations differently, but this starts not mattering the later you get in the game. I assume if you are in co-op, the classes and armor will make more of a difference. (I am also playing on hard difficulty, which honestly feels like proper way to play) Enemy variety is lacking. Bolters are a joke - I'm not even sure why they're in the game other than as a callback to the first game. Volatiles do not exist in this game unless you decide to head into a dark zone in the day or increase your "chase level" to 4 at night. There is a zombie which is the equivalent of a charger in l4d. I have never seen it outside of GRE anomaly events or main story quests. "Boomers" become more common in later zones, but any ranged weapon basically invalidates them. Howlers (special infected that call on the horde) make up 99% of the special infected you see. A simple idea for improvement is just combining the howler and bolter into one and reducing their spawn rate (seriously there is a howler every 10m at night, they start to feel like a common zombie). Speaking of GRE anomalies, these are the special infected boss zones found across the world. These "special" infected are all the same. Don't expect proper "boss battles" in this game, it is not their specialty and has the same flaws regarding enemies as most rpgs that aren't in a fantasy setting.

EVERYTHING ELSE:
The game has bugs. It increases more and more the further you get into the game. I actually went through the entire starting zone without a bug. A few instances of clipping, a couple cutscenes where the character is stuck in some position or clipping through another - it's actually kinda funny to see a floating bottle moving around pouring you a drink. Relatively free from game breaking bugs other than black screen crashes after a cutscene. This went to Cyberpunk levels at the final main story quest. I could not get past the epilogue cutscene without turning down my settings and installing new drivers. Luckily, this ending quest is 1% of the game (though arguably the most important part as well). The graphics are great and I didn't experience very many frame drops on an underclocked 2080, all while streaming the game on 1080p 60 fps on discord.

Even with all the flaws in the narrative, the core gameplay loop is so mind-numbingly fun that I couldn't rate it any lower. That experience of finally climbing up the tallest building you see, using your environment to take down enemies one by one, the left swing and right swing breaking flesh and bone, the tension that builds up in the dark or in the unknown, the tight corridors and spaces that offer no visibility into the next area you're entering - these are what Dying Light 2 does best.

Early Access Review
Highly recommend this game. Played with a couple of friends-about 8 of them. The game gets pretty laggy with that many people at one time so keep that in mind.

We started off all spawning on a pier with a bunch of NPCs. They seemed really friendly, often referring to us as "Ja" which seemed really endearing. Decided to kick them all off the pier.

We did all the basic stuff to start off kind of like Minecraft, starting from wood into stone into copper and etc. There's a few dungeons in the starter island which were pretty fun and wonky. Hoverboards and goblins and bears and ancient golems. The highlight was definitely when we got to the loot room and there were only 5 chests. Needless to say it was a deathmatch to get loot, except without the pvp so think of it like Fall Guys. Fortunately for me, my friends are all stupid and aren't aware of the hidden walls that contain chests at the beginning and end of most dungeons.

Most of the hours we spent were on burning each other and the island down, and trying to commit mass genocide with cows because they enjoy destroying all of your buildings. Once you get to the other islands, the other animals do this as well so just to be safe, kill everything you see.

If you like femboys, minecraft mechanics with a lot of rpg elements, Dr. Stone, Harvest Moon, Breath of the Wild graphics, and literally every other game you can think of, this game might be for you. There's quite a few bugs, and a lot of things that need polishing, but even through all of that I did enjoy my time. Reminded me a lot of the old MMO flyff.

9/10.

Would highly recommend.

Lost 4 of my long time friends because of this game. It was perfect because I had been looking for a way to distance myself for a while since they were toxic. Fortunately, I didn't have to.

11/10.
