When a friend showed me this game, I thought to myself "Top-down Battle Royale? How on earth would that work?" And to my surprise, the devs made it work out incredibly. The top-down perspective combined with simpler controls (compared to other BR games) make this easily one of the best games of this genre for me.

On top of that, the game has an incredible charm to it, that, even if you die in the stupidest way possible, you sometimes can't help but laugh at the chain reactions that happen subsequently after your death. Of course, this is only something that can happen if you're not one to have their lid blown easily by the slightest puff.

The community is a mixed bag from what I've seen: newbies, sweats and everything in between, but nothing toxic to any extremes, at least in my time of playing.

The events, battle passes (dubbed animal passes) and achievement milestones are rather grindy, but they do reward clothing and weapon skins, which will let you style up your super animal to your liking.

All in all, a particularly great game. I just wish I could tell my past self to not judge a book by its cover...

It pains me to write a negative review for this game, but in its current state, TERRORHYTHM is just not that enjoyable

Don't get me wrong, being a fan of rhythm games, I like this game and see great potential for it, but there are a couple major issues that prevent me from truly enjoying the game

Messy calibration system
Other reviewers have covered how this feature breaks when you use controllers, but since I've never used a controller for this game, I'll let you read those reviews for more accurate information. However, there is still something else that is rather done poorly.

The calibration system is supposed to measure your delay and help you make more accurate keystrokes/controller presses, but the system does not do a good job at doing this.

Instead of a metronome style test with a simple click or beep, it just puts some music and a visual cue, neither of which are even close to matching. There is an incredibly large offset between the audio and visual cues, I've had my tests be thrown off into the ~220ms region because of this. Once I learned that it was only the visual cue that mattered, I was able to drop it back down to the double digits.

If you're doing calibration for this game, you might get better results if you mute the game whilst doing it

Patterns suddenly stop for custom music
This happens infrequently, but is still rather annoying.

Sometimes when the game is played for extended periods, the enemy patterns just suddenly stop being generated in the middle of a song, and nothing shows up for the rest of the song.

I've tried deleting and re-uploading my songs, and they work as intended after that, but the issue appears again after a few tracks.

While occasional breaks are welcome, this is absurd. I want to play the tracks all the way, not get slapped with half-effort generation, especially when the music gets good.

All in all, for what it's worth, TERRORHYTHM is a neat game, a great timewaster, but these key components I mentioned desperately require some tweaks.

I will change this review if the game is ever updated and fixes the issues

"At first I touched nothing... then I touched everything"

This game is a pretty good puzzle game, it makes you really think out the solutions to each of the unique endings, although it can be a little tricky to figure out at first

Now I can play difficult maps without worrying about my global accuracy being lowered, because for some reason, I actually care about that!

Like the box says, it's pretty much a practice client for osu! Standard, and nothing else. It's got some fun modifications that osu! doesn't have, which is pretty neat. Can't really say anything about the VR since I don't own an appropriate device...

As a fan of the first game, I can safely say I have enjoyed this sequel.

The music sounds a bit more in-depth, there's unique music for the bosses of each overworld route, partners you can bring along (on a date), and new special attacks! Even better: these special attacks are interchangable!

While those were nice changes to experience in this retro-like bullet hell, I still have a minor problem with this game: It's really short (20-30 minutes on average per run) just like the first one, and the storyline pretty much mimics the first one: that is, you have to kill a humongous beast made of all the horrifying and problematic troubles in order to save the world, and then choose someone to end your game with. I personally wish the storyline would have gone a bit differently...

All things considered, I recommend this game, but I would highly suggest waiting for a sale.

Seeing the game on the store page:
"Horror? On a colorful game like this? Pfff..."

Starting out:
"I'm not seeing anything scary about this, I'm sure this'll be a cutesy short platformer, and nothing else."

A few worlds in:
"Oh neat, I'm being introduced to the Eversion mechanic! I wonder---Why does everything look fake now?"

Even further:
"Okay, things are starting to look depressing, but I don't think it can get much worse... I mean what could--- OH GOD WHY ARE THERE DEMON HANDS POPPING OUT OF THE WATER??"

Morale of this review: Always take a game's tags seriously, or else end up in a spooked mess like I am

Man, it's nearly 12 years since I played this on the console, and I still remember this game fondly. The story, the various aspects/upgrades for each character, the multiplayer, the Chao garden, all incredible stuff.

This game is also moddable (to an extent), so if you have a thing for that, you're in luck!

I only have one minor problem with this game:
The fact that the Battle DLC is something that you have to purchase. I personally think this was not a good idea, it should have been included with the base game.

If you're in need of a nostalgia trip to the early 2000s, and you're a fan of the Sonic franchise, then by all means, get this game.

If you need me, I'm gonna be wasting my life, taking care of these adorable Chao that for some reason I named after my Steam friends.

It's an 8-bit mini bullet-hell, and I love it

Gives you quite a challenge on the Normal difficulty, was very tough on Hard, and Master... I'll become one soon...

Although somewhat short, the whole game was very enjoyable

I have only one complaint: There is no cheese character you can give remedy to... I want to marry some cheese!

This game, it's just... It's so bad I can't even describe it

Let's see, where do I begin...

I played through the tutorial because that's what I usually do, and when I got through it, the game told me to use the pause menu to leave. I thought doing quit game would take me back to the main menu, but nope, it just flat out shut the game down. Why have a tutorial if it's going to force you to quit the game?

Getting into the actual part of the game, the first building, FIRST building, I find multiple problems: I had to do sort of fetch quest in order to leave, in which I was given no knowledge, or even a hint, of doing so. It literally took me a whole 8 minutes to figure out what to do. When I got that done, I encountered buggy mapping near the exit door that would let me the exit the map. Just seeing those two things along almost caused me to close out right there, but I still managed to move on with this painful thing called a "game".

Now, these controls... Using the mouse and shift key to run? That just doesn't feel right on me. Especially since you have to click on every tile you want to go to. I get that it's a point-and-click game, but it would make more sense to be able to run in one direction while moving with shift instead of clicking on every single tile, but that's just me and my personal experience with these types of games.

But this dialogue... It's so cheesy, I wouldn't even eat it...

I saw this game was on sale, and had trading cards, so I figured "Hey, let's sit through something for a while and drop these cards", but nope, I didn't even drop my first card, that's how far I managed to get myself before I quit.

Save your 15 cents (or how ever much the game happens to be now) for something else, people. Not even the card drops are worth it.

You get determined by hoping a mouse gets to eat something, then you get to save your game

If that reason alone isn't enough to buy the game, then you are cold hearted

In all seriousness, this game can really get to your emotions, I won't spoil anything, I'll just say it's bound will make you tear up at some parts

Overall, it's a great game, but I would personally wait for it to go on sale before buying it
