A sci-fi sandbox colony builder for players with a flare for layout design. You play as an intangible decision maker to help guide your quirky colonists to building a thriving base made of local resources in a morally grey, uncivilized planet full of danger and treasure alike. Each colonist has their own complex personality, skills, detailed physical health and an opinion of everyone they interact with. Keeping the mood up for your colonists is a very big part of the game and that comes through awarding them amenities, engaging in recreation, winning battles, flirting with their crush, eating good food, having a beer... etc.

Multiple starting scenarios, including customizable ones, different biomes and the detailed difficulty/storyteller settings ensure that the game isn't too difficult or easy for any player as well as add almost infinite replayability.

There are multiple ways to 'beat' the game and they all come with their own endings.

The tech tree is robust and like any good research system in a game, you can go the practical route or down branches of tech that are completely silly but still a ton of fun. Want to make a rocket launcher that explodes so big it might actually kill the operator? You can...

Probably one of the best trade systems in any colony sim. Trade caravans offering differing varieties of goods make regular visits to your colony (with trade ships passing through later on). This opens trade up wide. Almost anything can be sold for profit. That means you can specialize your colony for mass production of a certain good for trading, or simply sell off your junk for a tidy profit. If you want your colony to become the Anheuser-Busch of the Rim there's nothing stopping you from brewing unholy quantities of beer to barter off. Likewise you can be an arms dealer, a corn farmer, a butcher, a w**d dealer or all of those combined plus more!

Like any well-made colony sim, there's numerous ways to solve each problem (with varying outcomes). IE if you're running low on food you can always sell goods and buy some. Or the opposite problem, if you produce too much food that's overwhelming your stockpiles most traders will happily buy your excess... OR you can feed the extra food to your animals... or you can produce fuel with it...

My only complaint is that the game isn't very pretty but I actually like the cutsie minimal look.

10/10. One of my favorite games of all time. Each DLC (there's 4 at the time of authoring) only makes the game better and gives the player more to do and think about. Recommend.... with or without the DLC

The Mental Break DLC is what it should be called. In a literal life or death survival situation, your new colonists will come to your settlement belonging to different ideologians and start stacking mood debuffs over every tiny detail of your colony until they break...... over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over until you quit your run and start a new one with ideologians turned off. If you want to experience Rimworld where your colony does nothing but experience flacid growth until the game scales up and wipes them out then this DLC is for you. Enjoy the thrill of having only 6 colonists, no buildings and no research after 20 hours of trying to manage their moods. Read through lots of logs as you look upon in hopelessness because you don't have the supplies needed to stop your colonists from mentally breaking. So they do nothing but break, don't do any work, then break more because the colony sucks from nobody doing any work. I can't say ideologians were implemented well or really add anything of value to Rim World. It's a very stunted way to play the game and I can't say it's even fun from a roleplaying perspective either. If Rim World was a submarine then this DLC is the carbonfiber hull.

It's a casual factory/automation game with bright and toyish graphics. It has logistical mechanics that are similar to Factorio but utilizes the 3rd dimension as well. There are no enemies to fight and no rush to complete any objectives. If you want 'challenges' in the game I suggest visiting the very active Reddit page. This game is extremely forgiving of mistakes. And with the bright graphics, the bigger your town gets, the cooler it looks. The tech tree is deep and the 3D building is easy, making the game as complex as you'd like it to be. It's the Lego of factory games: bright, colorful, optimistic and great for a player of any age.

In this game I managed to start a brawl between the police and fire department. About 12 - 14 emergency service employees fought to the death in the town square. I somehow exploded during the calamity. I had great gear too and mourned aloud for my character and my girlfriend heard me. After explaining to her what happened, she didn't care.

10/10, will find all the exploding deaths in this game
