Its quite hard to accustom to Blender controls after switching from C4D, but overall just requires time. It's free, it's opensource, scriptable/extendable with Python (another +1 from me) and yet powerful. And you're not limited to 3D modelling - you also can edit and post-process videos with node compositing, if you really need (not that flexible as After Effects, but possible).
