I grew up with side-scrolling beat 'em ups like Streets of Rage, Double Dragon, Altered Beast, etc, and I can tell you now - this game ticks all the boxes. It feels like a well-polished, classic beat 'em up, but somehow with a certain modern smoothness and fresh appeal.

The controls are intuitive - easy to learn yet almost impossible to master. The enemy AI is robust - often anticipating moves and combinations which can be frustrating and challenging. Dodging inside to reach an enemy with a few swift punches is ridiculously satisfying when done right, until you get whipped by another enemy or get a knife in the back. No matter how many times you play a level you'll always have to play slightly differently to get past it.

Easy mode is hard. Hard mode is... really hard. I can't even begin to imagine what Ultimate Hard mode will be like (if I ever manage to unlock it!)

The graphics, settings, enemy designs... they are all very pleasant to look at. You can tell particular care has been taken with the designs and animations - especially with how some of the enemies move and wield weapons.

A special shout-out goes to the music - the soundtrack is just phenomenal.

All in all, a solid 9/10! Will update if I have any more thoughts but I definitely recommend this - especially if you're a fan of the beat 'em up genre!

I've sunk a good few hours in so far and I'm not getting bored, so that's a good start! I'm a big fan of the arcade-style shoot 'em up games - always have been. Nothing quite like grinding away for progression! This will definitely be one I play a few times over to hoover up all the achievements.

Story / Progression

The story flows well - it's your standard "the world has ended, deliver some packages, kill some bosses, don't die" kind of story with some nice artwork to mix it up. Every now and then I got super stuck on a boss and had to replay sections a few times to accumulate enough cash for upgrades - and then suddenly that boss and the next few levels were ludicrously easy because of the upgrades. I found the incendiary shotgun to be a bit OP but good fun.

I really like the upgrade system, grinding for that next bit of armour to make a level a bit easier, saving for that auto-turret secondary weapon so I can shoot things while I shoot things, or sticking fun colours/liveries/spoilers/wheels on the car to spice up a level a bit.

My only hang-up is that it's possible to progress sometimes without actually killing a boss, rendering some collectables... noncollectable, which is a bit triggering.

Graphics

It's very pretty to look at for a top-down shooter. A lot of love has been put into the designs, each batch of levels feels nice and distinctive with varying terrain and back-drops.

Gameplay / Controls

The controls are easy to work with but become a bit more complicated as you upgrade skills. You can speed up, slow down, move up and down using the standard WASD keys and ENTER / R-SHIFT for weapons, but as you level up skills you get fun new mechanics like drifting to shoot enemies diagonally, being able to twist and shoot backwards for short periods of time, do hard braking to get behind enemies or ram them - all in all, fun mechanics, good progression that keeps it interesting. I sometimes "zigged when I should have zagged," mixing up keys and accidentally drifting into the side of an enemy instead of hard-braking, but I think this is because I'm getting old and slow!

Replayability / Grinding

Should be good for at least 10-20 hours of solid fun and perhaps a bit more if you want to collect all the achievements as I probably will. I'm finding myself taking the odd break here and there which I don't always tend to do when I'm really into a game, which tells me I'm finding it a little repetitive in some areas. A lot of the enemies in each sector / set of levels are largely the same but with different designs and ammo-styles but it's varied enough to keep it spicy for each section. You have enemies that'll fire backwards/forwards, that'll track you, fire rockets, drop mines/plasma in the road, etc.

All in all, a fun game for the price! An early review - and I'll update if I come across anything else, but otherwise... a solid 8/10 in it's genre!

What an absolutely fantastic game.

As a big fan of the Terminator franchise (largely the first two films) - this game hit all the notes for me. Some brilliant ties into the movies, good game-play, wonderful story-line... 10/10!

There's a great scene that ties into the first movie towards the end of the Annihilation Line DLC - I won't spoil it, but hot-diggity, I had goosebumps! You can really tell this game was made by people who truly love the franchise just as much as the fans.

A quirky, fun, if slightly disjointed at times, romp through space.

Without spoiling too much, it merges Fallout-esque comedy, with some space crafting, a crazy, quirky story with some fun mechanics.

Sure, it's not perfect, but definitely worth 20-30 hours at the price tag.

UPDATED REVIEW - 135~ hours - Post 1.21
----------------------------------------------

1.21 has been the patch that has really improved my experience with this game. I still feel that the world beyond the quests is lacking in content, and I hope they add more to the world with hobbies, customisations and more, but Patch 1.21 has improved the game for me a lot. I've lost any minor issues I had and can run the game on top settings across the board and experience no issue.

On replay, everything feels better - driving, combat, NPCs, traffic... it all adds to the immersion and makes the game a fair bit more enjoyable.

Next gen graphics, old gen gameplay.

The ONLY thing that this game does phenomenally well is the world design. That's it. everything else is decidedly average.

I enjoyed the game, but the world feels empty, devoid of anything to do outside of scripted missions and painted-map side-quests. It's a beautiful shell devoid of anything inside.

Early Access Review
A fun game - the perpetual development and new features is great, but it does feel like this Early Access title is going to forever be stuck in Alpha.

A fairly repetetive, simple Tower Defense - has all the hallmarks - but is very simply executed. Stick down one of 8 towers, hammer the "Next Wave" button and collect a ridiculous amount of achievements.

Took me just shy of 2 hours to 100% it, collect all 200-and-something achievements and trading cards.

Wouldn't pay more than £0.50p for it.

A fast, fun little platformer. A relaxing, easy game to play with the slightest hint of difficulty towards the end.

A pleasant one-button platformer.

Easy to play, quick and easy achievements that leave you feeling fulfilled.

If you're looking for some cheap and cheerful to kill a bit of time here and there, or just chill out and play something that nets you literally zero stress, then this is for you.

Do you know what, for £1.59 (UK) it's about as good as you can expect for the money.

Took 15 hours to complete - I'd say around 75% of that I wasn't even at my computer, or switched to a different window. Once you've got a few decent tower upgrades, the very repetitive gameplay is a breeze. Just set, forget and walk away.

There's no bells, no whistles... just a range of basic, unlockable towers, a couple of upgrades for each and a few bombs you can drop on the field which I don't think I even used. 70 levels of grinding for an easy "Perfect Game."

It works. It's not very exciting... I'd go as far to say it's boring, but for £1.59 (15 hours - so £0.10p an hour!) - who cares?
