Great game, great history, a remasterization would be a hit for sure.

Wow, just wow Frontier has managed to screw up a release of what could have been something great and honestly I don't know where to start from.

Perhaps with the most critical issue and are the other reviews saying that none of the bugs are game breaking, well, that is only true if all you're doing are conflict zones, other than that chances of getting a bug that breaks an on-foot mission is pretty much guaranteed.

The second critical issue is the performance, with an RTX 3090 and an i9-9900k I can't get any more than 70 fps, and that's only taking into account deep space frames, planets, stations and bases are just an easy way to throw up if you're playing in VR, and that's without taking into account the possible motion sickness that you may get by palying on-foot on a flat screen.

The third issue, while not critical, is pretty much disappointing, and that's what comes down to the planetary tech, when I saw the icy planet on the screenshots I was really hoping to finally get a base (even if it's only psychological) and perhaps finally get into exploring, but definitely what you see on the screenshots is far from what you get, and while the thin atmospheres don't look bad at all (in fact I could say the atmospheres are the best part of the game as it stands today), the terrain work is poorly done and it takes an excessive hit on the PC load, it's just unbelievable after it doesn't even look good nor is it ray-traced.

Now there are other bunch of issues that I think don't require a lot of work and will most likely get fixed by the time you're reading this and these include, poor UI in several aspects, specially in the galaxy map, dumb on-foot AI, 2 fps when changing atmosphere around bases and on your suit, etc. but I think these ones may quickly get fixed (that is, in under a month) and that are not as disappointing as the main issues.

Now for the good stuff I'd say atmospheres, and that alone certainly inspired me to explore (but of course, not at 30 fps with a Valve Index) and I'm looking forward to the time the optimization is fixed so I can actually go and explore, I could as well use that beautiful terrain shown in the screenshots (particularly ice) and being able to complete an on-foot mission without looking for non-existent data ports.

So I would recommend to wait for the console release if you're seriously looking to play on-foot and with your Horizons commanders, at the state it's in it should be a shame to call it a full release, because it really is just a beta with a full price tag.

Good game, and excellent value if you happen to grab it at 2 bucks, tho I have to say it is very short (It took 50 mins to complete all achievements) it is great when you're just looking for a fun, short and quite colorful game, I see it also being one of the games I'd be showing my friends and family that are just trying VR for the first time as it's very comfortable to play and the explosions look great.

Overall good game.

Supposedly I'm more than set up with a score of 11 with frame rates over 90fps.

Start Elite Dangerous in medium settings and I barely hit 60fps, a bunch of other VR games average 75 and only Super Hot does the promised 90. Absolutely the worst test, now I need to upgrade while my Valve Index stays on its box, thank you Valve.

This game is awesome, please support it so it can be better! I really can't wait to land on planets with atmosphere and different ways of life, different new ships, capital ships, OMG they still have a lot to do, and what is already there is already amazing, I just can´t describe it, you have to look at it for yourself

If you are new to this game prepare to get crushed

The learning curve of the game has always been hard, it takes minutes to know how to shoot, hours to know how to move, days to know how to dance around in the galaxy but the worst part arrived in the engineers update, because in this game, knowing how to shoot is not the same as knowing how to fight and the new monotonous NPC AI will make you take weeks on knowing how to fight, and I´m just gonna remind you that it'll take mastering fighting so you can either trade, explore or do whatever else you want to do in the galaxy, and therefore buy a better ship (either good-looking or better fitted)

This game was good when in a week you were ready to get credits any way you wanted, and so starting to build your fortune to buy the ship of your dreams, now it takes at least half a year to do that, unless you are willing to play 8 hours daily, then you can master it in a month, however, that isn't fun for everyone, I certainly like that it was going to take me 3 months to get the ship of my dreams, but now that it will take 3 years I'm not so motivated, and actually taking a break with the hope that the AI will be re-classified if not downgraded/nerfed, if my hopes get crushed then I'll most probably leave this game forever, and it hurts a lot to do it, because it was the best game I have ever played.

Early Access Review
