As a big fan of Mini Metro I really wanted to like this game - but on the whole I'm a bit disappointed with it.

There are a couple of new ideas here but also plenty of flaws. I found that it wasn't so much a puzzle game about traffic management but more simply about building as few roads as possible.

Often the way the buildings spawn means you're also battling nonsensical city planning which isn't an aspect I enjoy. This is one of the areas where carrying over the initial concept doesn't really make sense to me. When building a subway you have no control over station location, this is dictated by existing geography - in many ways this is where the satisfaction of the original comes into play - however people don't build houses where there is no infrastructure. People don't build shops on islands with no bridges - the analogy just doesn't carry over and when you end up with a jumble-sale of buildings with roads taking odd detours you start to wonder why the analogy was used in the first place. It would be far more interesting in my opinion if buildings only spawned attached to roads you'd already built. Meaning that you were in control of expansion (risk reward), and that the city built up around the infrastructure in a fairly logical way. It would make it a new and interesting game with a different twist - which I'd have much preferred.

Ultimately it's an interesting re-skin but I think a wasted opportunity to create a new game in a similar universe. If it had city building elements - perhaps simplified in a puzzle sort of way, then I think it could work - but for me right now the analogy is flawed and the gameplay isn't as fun as the original.

The mega rogue-like. The game that has taken everything good about the genre and smashed it into a masterpiece.

At its core this is a brilliant game but it has long-standing bugs - one of which ruined my playthrough which put me off returning.

I don't expect 2-year old bugs to get fixed so I wouldn't recommend the game.

Addictive and surprisingly deep gameplay/strategy. Charmingly obtuse UI. I like it.

A form of therapy I've relied on since 2014. Satisfying, fun and extremely rewarding.

Love the exploratory nature of the game and how it will open up over time. I'm enjoying getting to know it and there's nothing quite like it. Very interesting way to deliver dynamic story telling.

Cracking little simulator from a single dev.

It's fairly limited in scope at the moment, but what's there works really well. Lots of variety on the lines with regards to traffic, signalling and track speed/flow, and handling the railcars is straight forward and satisfying (I'm a sucker for anything with a steam gauge). Mod support is coming soon whch will allow for even more content variety, and the dev is very responsive to user feedback and is actively improving the simulation whenever he gains access to more data.

The point scoring system is fantastic - it seems to be fairly complex under the hood but the summary you get at the end of a route is brilliant and does a really good job of adding some 'game' to the sim.

The art assets, in the environment especially, are very basic. Unlike something like ETS2 you're not going to be enjoying beautiful vistas - but it's functional if what you care most about is the simulation.

If like me you've spent a lot of time complaining about late trains in Britain you finally have the chance to experience them from a different perspective!
