Sony back-pedal'ed: Yey

Just bought it to support the devs. Please improve the game while keeping fair monetization!

The primary gameplay loop is superb. If you want to scratch the horde-shooting itch like L4D did, but with a fresh coat of paint and a kick-ass soundtrack, this is the game for you.

I bought the game after their talent tree overhaul; it is a good change. It gave me the confidence that FatShark is in it for the long haul in supporting this game-- hence this recommendation from me.

Their support is definitely needed, as this game has some issues.
Objective ones:
  • Crafting heavily relying on RNG-- Modifier stats, perks, blessings, locking.
  • Sound cues-- how can enemies sneak behind me without making a sound, looking at you giant Ogryn enemies.

The "feel" of power is always subjective and can always be tweaked according to FatShark's vision for the game. I like this game; it provides the comfort I need after a long working day. For me, the fantasy of mowing down hordes of heretics like they're Nazis in Wolfenstein and zombies in L4D is always gratifying. Darktide improved upon that: melee feels satisfying, gun play is weighty, the difficulty is hard yet fair and challenging, the banters feel natural while being longer, the game looks great, and the soundtrack is a banger.

They nailed the foundations of what makes a good horde-shooter... not a looter-shooter. I don't want this to be a looter-shooter, please. FatShark, you already got me hooked-- I will kill heretics even if the base game only has sticks and stones for weapons. Heck, I don't even know a lick of what the story is about, but you made it so that I like listening to these rejects banter ceaselessly. What I don't want to do is roll X amount of times to get an ok/decent base weapon only to get perks and blessings that don't fit the build that I want to try/use.

The Hack-N-Slash element and animations still hold up today. Play this if you want a classic power fantasy, button-mash, and 3rd-person Hack-N-Slash. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the protagonist's dry non-cringe-worthy retorts and general badass-ery.

A great and fun simplified city-building game. Do not play this if you want a relaxing city-builder; this game will require your whole 30 mins of attention.

A looter shooter without the live service BS
This scratches my mindless loot-goblin itch without exposing me to the "please-play-me-forever" trap of live-service games. I like what's offered here. Unfortunately, I can't help but imagine the what-if's if this game was launched better, the promised DLCs were delivered, bugs fixed, balance tweaked, and the publisher made right with the developer. This game could have been so much better!

The combat holds up well. It is between a casual hack-n-slash like Darksiders and a spectacle fighter like its mainline DMC counterpart. I get why it got a bad rap back in the day, as it doesn't feel DMC-y at all. However, if Team Ninja didn't slap this with DMC trappings, it would still hold up as its own game.

A fun and short game. I didn't expect a game about making holes in the ground to have a coherent, non-cringe-worthy story and dialogue.

Cuz Mad Moxxi. Storywise, this is better than BL1 because of its villain, Handsome Jack. As for the gameplay loop, if you like BL1, you will most likely feel at home.

Kick-ass soundtrack and challenging gameplay
Lean, and no BS game. No grinding, just a skill-based boss-rush game with a beautiful soundtrack and ambiance. My only complaint would be the bullet hell transitions. For a melee-focused 1v1 boss game, it doesn't fit nicely as a new boss phase.
