Terrible optimization, awful new player experience, questionable balancing, fundamentally flawed design choices, lack of content even for an EA title, brutally punishing gameplay and incredibly slow (and at times sisyphean) meta-progression all come together to make the experience of playing this game slightly engaging at best and simply unfun at worst. Really sad to see the state it's at after waiting for almost 3 years. But hey, at least the music and art are good.


The hotfix that the devs dropped a few days after launch (the speed at which they put the patch out is commendable but it still has me questioning why such a simple patch with VITAL fixes and additions was not part of the EA release) has fixed some of my issues. Performance is on actually playable levels now, which is the major problem they addressed. The game still needs MAJOR rebalancing with most of the gameplay systems such as overall difficulty, health/medkits, the ammo system, enemy ai/aggression, the parry mechanic, gear durability etc. but the moment to moment gameplay that was held back by the terrible optimization is actually quite fun now. Content is still very much lacking as the hotfix was just that, a hotfix.

I'd still advise you to hold out on purchasing the game until MUCH later on in Early Access when most of these issues get (hopefully) smoothed out unless you REALLY want to play it for some reason.
