If you've played The Witness, you'll like this.

If you played The Witness, and found the story to be pretentious, wanky, self-serving; you'll love this.

I'm still disappointed they rushed this port out the door. I'll forgive them, but don't make this mistake again. Once is already too many times.

I think the game's in a good enough state to recommend now - but please consider the system requirements! An RTX 3070Ti won't run this game at incredible framerates because of the VRAM limitations. A mess all round, but I think if you can allow yourself to see past the amoral release tactics of this game, it's a great play.

I'd also like to say apart from the performance and lacklustre CPU utilisation, this is actually a decent port. Great menus, controls and graphics settings. I just wish it wasn't wrapped in a poo blanket!


Review prior to 5/5/23:

This game should never have been released in the state it was. I'm sick of giving developers and publishers, especially the size of Naughty Dog and Sony, credit for fixing their mess. Considering two hotfixes were released in two days, which seemingly have helped stabilise it, these should have been implemented before the release - where on earth was the QA testing?

I can't give it a positive rating yet. They have acknowledged its flaws, and are working to fix them - hopefully sooner rather than later. The game is otherwise phenomenal - when you get it running. However, please do not buy it until they have fixed the issues.

The graphics can be breathtaking in some scenes (even if my R7 5800x + RTX 3070Ti can't run it above medium @ >60fps in most scenes). The story is still the same, great, challenging narrative that it was in 2013.
The added extras are fantastic, and the controls (if not a bit confusing at the start) are really well-done for the keyboard.
The options menus are plentiful, and I'm very thankful they've let us fine-tune EVERYTHING. I'm also very glad they've sorted that goofy DX12 issue in Uncharted with treating borderless-fullscreen as, well, not that.

It's a damn shame they hired the most infamous PC-porting company to take care of one of Sony's most beloved IPs. I never played it on PS, so this was going to be a great experience for me. It was an apocalyptic decision (sorry) to do so, and this game's technical malarkey will forever be a stain on NG's otherwise spectacular technical legacy. I guess you reap what you sow.
