Runs like trash on NASA PC. I'm trying to squeeze these 60 FPS using low settings and some heavy scaling.
Overall, plays nice and interesting, but better wait for patches.

TL;DR horrible optimisation on a very good PC, bad voice acting (both english and russian), game feels odd and looks like devs don't know what kind of atmosphere they want in their product

review without spoilers

Welcome to the Zone
Chernobylite is survival horror open world early access (dear lord these cursed tags.) game centered around, as you guessed, the Chernobyl zone. You can clearly see that it's heavily inspired by stalker series, which is no surprise to me. We play as Igor, former worker at the Ukrainian power plant located in Chernobyl. He witnessed the whole disaster in 1986, and lost his girlfriend/wife called Tatyana. Tatyana has turned into a ghost (or something else) that now haunts Igor after all these years, she's inside his head, he can hear her voice. Igor at some point, years after Chernobyl disaster, decides to go back to the exclusion zone to gather the mysterious "Chernobylite" - weird, unexplained resource that can be used as an nearly infinite source of power.
And that's all, i haven't played THAT much, and even if there is still something left to say, i won't cover it, this review is for people that would like to see the opinions about the game itself but they don't want any spoilers so yeah.
The looks
For an indie early access game? Looks very good (if you like Unreal Engine graphics). You can adjust nearly every setting to suit your g4m3r needs. Don't believe the Steam Store Page screenshots tho, it's not that level.
My PC exploded
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ the optimisation is so bad, on my good PC (i can run most of the new games on high at 60 fps) on MEDIUM settings it normally runs on 20-30 FPS during prologue (linear episode) and like 15-20 during open world exploration. Turning everything to low doesn't helps, dunno what's up with this. I hope they will fix it on the release. I've read other reviews and they say that the optimisation really is that bad, so you should be prepared for this mentally.
Gunplay and other stuff
Gunplay is decent. You need to aim to shoot and the animations are weird. The feeling is odd, it's like AK and the rest lacks a punch. I really like games that are giving you weapons that actually FEEL like a weapon, not a peashooter.
There's also base building system, it's literally fallout 4. I'm not joking. I don't know how to feel about this, when i was supposed to build workbenches and ♥♥♥♥ in my base and the debris literally started dissapearing when i pressed T button on them while in building mode, i felt weird. Don't get me wrong, it works, but i've expected something else from a game like this.

There's also crafting systems and weapons modification system. They're good, that's a plus. You collect stuff like flowers and other stuff and you craft ♥♥♥♥ from it, like medicine.

Other stuff
The atmosphere of this game rocks, but the immersion fades away when you're bombarded with constant placeholder voices during cutscenes, tatyanna spamming your head with her voice hallucinations (it's really a good concept, but it's used too much). There also other hallucinations, for example the ghosts of the dead workers of the power plant during prologue. It felt creepy and sad hearing them screaming and being scared about what just happened ~cough, nuclear reactor exploded~. It kept me playing, but Tatyana? Man, it's like they still don't know where and how to use her and hallucinations, it's annoying sometimes. She just says too much, it breaks the atmosphere and forces the SPOOPYNESS.

Oh yeah, and the characters. Igor went with some mercs to the Chernobyl to get the chernobylite, some ♥♥♥♥ happened and everything went wrong, and one of them was just later standing there being like "oh yeah that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ will pay for this, for killing X and Y, now let's go". I mean okay, it's early access, they said there will be redone voice acting and that's good, but it will take them time.

Verdict
You want to buy the game to support the devs? Sure, go ahead.
You want to actually play and by play i mean immerse into the world of Chernobylite and feel it while exploring chernobyl exclusion zone? Hold it. Wait for final release.

Guys from thefarm51, don't get me wrong, i love this project. I've followed it since kickstarter campaign started and i was really excited for something stalker-like, but as for right now, this ain't kosher for me. I wish you luck, for now it's a refund, but i will follow you, and i will buy the game again if it will be good.

Good hunting stalkers.

"Time to mix drinks and change lives."
~Jill, main character of VA-11 Hall-A

It got me 14 hours to beat it. And it's not going to be my first playthrough. Let's start.

Valhalla is one of these games that you don't expect to stay for long in your heart, "let's give it a shot, cute anime waifus and bartending" but when you'll first launch it and feel "it", you know you're gonna fall in love.

Story (no spoilers)
The year is 2069/2070 (still not sure).
You play as girl named Jill, bartender working at the BTC bar in Glitch City, where everything is different, even drinks.
Glitch City is ruled by lust, big bad corporations, thugs and all of that. Hell, Cyberpunk 101.
But not really.
People are still trying to live in these dense, chaotic times, they're trying to forget about their problems, enjoy their lives... and so here are you, trying to help them with that.
As an bartender, Jill meets a lot of interesting folks, talking about their problems, relationships, lives, families, all of that. But our girl is no different from the others, she's trying to live her life too, trying to survive in this cruel world while still doing her job - serving drinks. She's been through a lot, so be prepared for things...
I think that's enough, i don't want to even spoil what kind of people (and dogs, and humanoid things...) you will meet, you'll figure it out yourself if you really want to play this masterpiece.

Gameplay
Well, what to say. You make drinks and serve them. Sounds simple enough? You need to follow people's preferences ("i want something sweet, but not too sweet"). Sometimes, you need to get to know well your clients to get their "ending" and other secrets, by serving them right drinks at the right time. Lady wants Martini? Serve her beer, if you know she really likes it and you can see she's sad. That's how story here works.
You don't really choose dialogues, you only listen to them. But you can change the story and ending by... serving different drinks, messing them up, and... oh yeah, i almost forgot! Money! Jill needs money to pay for her apartment, or she'll sleep on the streets, and as you can guess, that's not very bright idea for someone living in Cyberpunk World. You create story and change it by serving right or wrong drinks, by paying your rent, buying things from shop (Jill sometimes want some weirdass stuff like beard-growing dolls, anything like that, otherwise she'll get distracted at work and this can mess things up). And this fits very well with the drink-making mechanics. Jill can also browse the internet on her phone to read some knock-off 4chan retardation board called "danger/u/" where only girls are allowed (i think?) or some far cousin of CNN, named "The Augmented Eye". Oh, and you can read blogs... uhm, blog.

One "Bad Touch", please.
Making drinks can be confusing at first, but don't worry, it's easy as pie. You have recipe book and ingredients. To make each drink you need to follow the recipe, for example you need to add 3 red thingy and 1 blue thingy, and mix it. You mix drinks by stoping the "blender" when time passes 5 seconds, and you blend them when it passes 10 secs. Sometimes, you also need to add ice cubes, drinks to be aged, all that stuff. You need to also learn how to make "big drinks", but it's simple too - double the amount of each ingredient, and you're ready to go! And, oh well... alcohol. You can sometimes add "optional karmotrine" to get people drunk, which can make things funny. And hey - that's it. You will learn quickly how to do these things, and if it sounds boring to you, then well - welcome to the world of Visual Novels.

Music ♬

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, the OST of this gem rocks. You can also... - no, you're REQUIRED - to make your own playlist from the OST tracks and blast it in-game during work. That's it, baby, play some music!

Fun stuff
Lots of references. For example Inqusition from Monthy Python's film and shop named after JC Denton from Deus Ex. And that's not all, but let's not talk about it - i don't want to be a party pooper when it comes to references. I'd like people to find them out themselves.

Do i recommend it?
Hell. Yes. Get some snacks and become god of the comfy. It's worth every penny on Steam, and you can play it on PS4 and Switch, too!
Also, sequel incoming, called "Nirvana" or something like that. Check it out, too!

Thank you based kiririn51 and the rest of Sukeban Games team (and of course Ysbryd and AGM PLAYISM) for making this gem and releasing it.
Time to mix drinks and change lives!

btw Jill best waifu
