Early Access Review
Risk of Rain 2 is the first game I have played that is anything like it. Needless to say, I bought the game only a week ago and (as of now) have sunk over 28 hours into the game. Risk of Rain 2 provides an experience unlike any other, despite only being early access for the time being. The game still has multiple updates to finish and yet it feels nearly complete. Even with the limited amount of enemies, bosses, items, and characters to play as, I still find myself wanting to come back because every run is just slightly different each time.

I really love this game, and while it may not be for those who just want to play an up-front shooter with no gimmicks, I think you should give it a shot anyways. 9/10 game for sure.

I've been playing Sonic for years. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was my first video game, in fact. So, of course, I went to get this game.
And I loved every second of it.

First, if you don't know what this game is about or if it's good or not, just keep reading. If you're too lazy, I'll provide a TL;DR at the end.

Sonic Mania was originally titled "Sonic Discovery" and was presented to Takashi Iizuka, or the head of Sonic Team, by Simon "Stealth" Thomley, and Christian Whitehead, that were previously known for making ROM hacks for the classic games, and remaking Sonic CD, Sonic 1, and Sonic 2 for mobile. After the presentation was a success, they began working on it soon afterwards. Sonic Mania is based on the original Sonic the Hedgehog games including Sonic the Hedgehog 1, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, and more, and is designed to feel just like the classics, but better.

And it does that.

Sonic Mania had my doubts for a little while, as I wasn't sure if having a bunch of fan-game developers lead a SEGA published game would be a good idea at all. But god was I surprised.
Sonic Mania achieves what I thought it would be, but makes it so, *so* much better. The spritework for the game is beautiful and sharp and isn't at all distracting from the actual gameplay, the music is absolutely incredible, and the gameplay for the game are very accurate to the classics, but updated with much fewer bugs, better physics in general, and 60 FPS all the way through.

Some gameplay elements you will find through the game are that for one, it is obviously very fast paced. As a platformer, you'd think this would be an odd mix, but if you've played any other Sonic games you would know otherwise. The bosses are very well made and unique, in fact, one is essentially one big reference to Puyo Puyo.

Of course, this game isn't perfect, and I'm not going to sugarcoat everything.

For one, this game has Denuvo. Denuvo is a type of DRM meant to try to prevent piracy by making sure the game is sealed to the platform the game is only able to be purchased on, meaning you have to be logged in to play it. I won't list everything about it as it is very extensive, so look it up yourself. Second, there are a few bugs in the game. They were fixed on PC for the most part, but expect to run into one or two bugs on your playthrough. Sonic Mania also has a bad habit of bringing back a few too many zones from previous games, as 2/3 of the entire game is recycled zones. However, the new zones are a blast. Studiopolis Zone, Press Garden Zone, Mirage Saloon, and Titanic Monarch are such a fun time to play, and some recycled levels like Chemical Plant Zone and Stardust Speedway are incredible. But levels like Oil Ocean Zone and Metallic Madness Zone are very odd zones to include, however they do a great job at making them very fun and unique in their own way. The game includes cutscenes between some zones, and keyword some. For whatever reason, a lot of zone transitions are missing, and as petty as it is, it is really unsatisfying.

However, most of these issues are extremely minor and barely make the gameplay worse at all. Denuvo, despite what people say is actually not malware, the bugs are very small usually and almost never happen, the new recycled zones are very unique and fun to play compared to their classic counterparts, and the cutscene thing is also extremely minor.
The best part about this game though?

You can mod it.

TL;DR: The game is extremely respectful of it's older counterparts, and does an even better job at portraying them. The minor issues it has are - well, minor - and you can mod the game if finish the game completely 7 times, like I have.

Overall, I give the game a solid 9/10. It's worth the $20 pricing.

Thanks for reading.

Just don't do it.
It's fun for the first couple days, but once you play all the champions/heroes (I play League of Legends, sorry if I'm wrong), it's not fun at all. The items are too weak and almost aren't even needed, the squirrel thing that runs with your items to you just makes it even less balanced, and the team does nothing to make more heroes/champions.

If you like any of these things, this game is for you.
-Good(ish) graphics
-Fun champion design (sometimes)
-Laning is a bit easier
-Casual

But if you see these, you will most likely change your mind:
-Only fun for the first 2 days
-No variety, there's always a hero mirrored
-Awful balancing
-In game purchases that aren't even appealing

TL;DR:
Don't get it.

This game is actually really fun.

The only con to it, is that it gets boring after the first 20 minutes of daily gameplay.
