Turns out that Sony has been adding even more countries to the restricted list. Can't continue to recommend this game at this point. It sucks for AH but when you have people who bought the game and now cant play it? Nah.

As a veteran Destiny player who has been there since first rez, I cannot recommend this purchase to anyone.
I was super excited to see the world of Neptune, to experience Neomuna and delve into the new subclass Strand with a glorious story to boot. Coming off the coattails of one of the best DLC's to date, The Witch Queen, I had high expectations for this DLC.
I was beyond disappointed. If I could turn back the hands of time I would wait until the sale it just went on (4/8/23) to even consider purchasing it.

There are some bonuses to the new year (note how I don't say DLC) being an upgrade to UI, A loadout system, Mod tuning, and various other quality of life upgrades that could have just been rolled out over time. Instead they were marketed with the DLC and have been the main factor of praise from others.

The story, while it is there if you squint, doesn't focus on the whole Dark vs Light saga and instead is a push at inclusion and mainly talk about the new subclass. It felt like less than the seasonal content that they time gate over the course of a few weeks. More questions remain after "completion" than were there before and none of our previous questions were answered. I have no idea how The Final Shape is going to be able to touch on ANY of our questions without leaving something to be desired.

I love this game for everything it CAN BE, but hate it for what it has become. Bungie has let down so many of its hardcore fans with this DLC.

Intro

Grounded is basically an amalgamation of "Honey I shrunk the kids" and "Ark: Survival Evolved." Minus the taming and breeding Dinosaurs that is.

Pros
  • Delightfully crafted art style that blends together cartoony and realistic.
  • The ability to created custom rules for your game to either ease the experience or make it even harder
  • Banter and conversations between the player characters that make stressful moments a little bit more entertaining
  • Bugs, both good and bad. What might normally seem like a terrible thing can be either hilariously cute, or terrifying.
  • Other bugs...game bugs. Some can lead to hilarious situations that can lead to taking out a boss far sooner than you should be, bringing even more humor to the game
  • The ability to play with up to three friends, and with friendly fire as an options this can be stupidly entertaining
  • Crafting system is similar to ark, with a transparent blueprint showing in world. The big plus to grounded's is that you can see where a player is attempting to place an blueprint before they finalize the decision. You can move crafting stations, crop plots, etc as well. But no structures like walls or foundations after they are fully built.

Cons
  • There are bugs, some of which include; an odd sprint glitch that makes your movement jerky unless you stop sprinting for a second, inventory visually disappearing, dew drops not actually being there/floating in air after grass is hit/chopped down, de-sync is still an issue at times,
  • Progression system can be funky at some points; ie needing part from an enemy to fight said enemy
  • Underwater combat can be frustrating. Some weapons you can use, some you can't and there is no way to revive players underwater as its an insta-death.
  • No ability to turn off the long distance blur in-game without having to go in and edit the .ini settings (both my husband and I have had to turn this off due to the blur causing headaches)

All in all, the game is still a fun experience with very few bugs, (harhar) and is great with a small group of friends. 100% recommend.

[EDIT]

As the years have passed, the negatives have continued to pile on. The game has become a microtransaction hell, the developers focus has clearly become on the money and not the core of the game. With their most recent State of the Game post they failed to show that they are listening and have all but told their player base to "deal with it" but in 6.5k more words than that. It's a game that is quickly sinking on a ship whose captain has long since left it's crew.

Destiny 2, no matter what it has been or becomes will always hold sentimental value to me beyond being just another game.

The Light
  • A solid community where a majority of players are helpful to one another. I've gained some of my closest friends through Destiny.
  • Seasonal content that keeps the game alive between expansions*
  • While shaky at first, a strong story that has been built upon over time
  • Content that caters to both the casual and hardcore players, from easy to difficult.
  • Holiday events with some cosmetics that you can earn through general game play.

The Dark
  • Bungie's ability to balance weapons and skills can sometimes be the biggest boss to fight. 6+ months to fix a borderline game breaking issue is bad.
  • *Content can run dry and feel repetitive at times. It's a grind at best. Fetch quest style weekly missions, forced time gating content, etc.
  • Destiny Content Vault. vaulting the story of the base game, 2 half DLC's and the first major expansion is a major downfall for those just joining. The previous story is impossible to learn if you're just joining.
  • Eververse. it's fun to have items that you can purchase for customizing your character to be different from your peers. But at the cost of 8-12$ per emote, 15$ for an armor skin set, and 6-8$ for a single weapon skin is just predatory since there is no way to earn those items through general game play.
  • The newly spoken about Dungeons being separate content that also has to be paid for from this point on.

The negatives may seem more, or even stronger than the positives but in the end, it's a fun game to play with friends when you just want to kill some time.

For its price point and the fact that it can bee seen as a "stand alone DLC" for Far Cry 5, this is a typical Far Cry style game with rich details and a fun story to follow.

Ark has enraptured my attention for thousands of hours. I find that as long as you have friends to play with this game's longevity extends exponentially. While it does have a life to single player game play, I find it can get stagnant quite easily. Wild card does their best to keep things up to date, but sometimes loses their focus on small events for fun instead of fixing bigger issues. Some of their decisions also seem a bit odd.
Never the less, its a fun game for dinosaur lovers with plenty of mod options!
