When I see a game with Mostly Negative reviews I assume it is a bad game at it's core - I would virtually never buy a game with such reviews.

This games' Mostly Negative review status is detached from reality. The story of Lightfall was lackluster when it came out (especially in contrast to the previous expansion) and the campaign was a little boring in that it only drip-fed you the new class instead of letting you play around with it's builds (which is the whole fun of Destiny), but otherwise, Destiny is a great game and this expansion is no exception.

If you haven't played since Lightfall's release you will be surprised by the number of QOL improvements they have made to the game, and the increased control you get over your loot drops with engram focusing available at practically every vendor. There are more dungeons than ever, more raids than ever, and more ways to get the exact loot you want.

Now that the game is regularly going on sale for 50% there is no point buying it for full price, but what you get for your money is an insane amount of content. Even if you are late you can still go back and do all the previous seasonal campaigns from this expansion, which nets you a ton of loot and a ton of great story.

My main gripe with the game as it stands is that the highest end content is falling into the trap of increasing enemy health to increase difficulty. Grandmaster Nightfalls and Master Dungeons rarely have moments where you get to feel like a super hero anymore, instead you are expected to have a perfect build and all that will allow you is the chance to survive by the skin of your teeth after a gruellingly long fight. To me this misses the fantasy of Destiny - even at the highest level a perfect build and perfect super timing should allow you to wipe out a boss or a room full of enemies from time to time. Those are the moments I remember most fondly, not the nail-biting fights where I spent 10 minutes peeking in and out of cover.

This issue only affects the cutting edge content though. The rest of the game is still balanced for fun over punishing difficulty and it is really fun. Destiny fans are notoriously toxic and the reviews of this expansion embody that toxicity. There are legitimate complaints, but the quality of this game is far from "Mostly Negative".

I have been waiting for a game to fill this niche for a long-time. When I saw the negative reviews complaining that it was just a facebook-clicker I actually got more excited. I love 'Weed Tycoon' and other similar growing/selling games and have been craving one for a while.

First of all, it is so much more than a facebook-clicker. It does not waste your time (probably because it actually costs money). You are rarely/never waiting for things to happen, the game plays at a healthy pace and doesn't feel like a crappy free app-store game. You can lose, and growing the one most valuable plant is never a winning strategy. The game intelligently forces you to try new strains and change the prices of your stock based on ever-changing competition. This is all shown in a very transparent way, you always know if your stock will sell or not.

Refining Nutrition/Temp/Humidity is a highlight of this game for me, no other growing game has come close to this level of detail and quality of life. Every combination of nutrients and growing conditions that you have ever tried is stored in a nutrition log that is specific to each strain, and it's sorted by which environment increased your quality the most. Eventually you can unlock a research lab to find out exactly what your plants need without trial and error, but I am really impressed at how well you can do with trial and error. I am able to get most plants to rare after growing a few batches of them.

The rpg-style social features are interesting too, but they lack a little depth. You can dig up dirt on people or just befriend them by talking to them, but once you figure out befriending and get a few perks for it you can walk into a new town, have a 10 minute chat with your local policeman and he will ignore your operation for months.

This review was written about 7 hours in. I am not convinced by employees yet, they cost a lot of money and aren't as good as I am at tasks until I make a huge time/money investment. I have just gotten to my second city and can see that the game will open up more from here. I'm excited for legal growing so I don't have to worry about heat, and can expand my groweries.
