One of the best rhythm games out there that doesn't feel like you're just mashing the buttons to the metronome beat on higher difficulties like most other rhythm games do. Controller highly recommended but not necessary to have fun.

i wanna start off by saying that i think playing this is a must if you liked original games. however, there are imo some issues that dont per-se hold it back, but are still present.

firstly, frame pacing for some reason is all over the place; i couldnt get consistent 60fps no matter what. unsure what the cause of this is, because my specs go beyond that (i5-10300h, 8gb ram which is the only minimum i hit, and gtx 1650) (though it could be the ram now that im thinking about it, so i guess just take that wit ha grain of salt. woops.).

puzzles are solid, and the difficulty curve seems fine to me, but at times it felt like my solution wasnt the intended one, but that i somehow cheesed it. could be my excessive need to bhop whenever i can because of how damn slow player movement is in portal and how large these chambers can be. at times, i genuinely wasnt sure where i was supposed to be going( for example when you reach old aperture and turn on the lights, it took me solid 30 minutes trying to find the portal gun which didnt feel very well telegraphed. you lose your old portal gun about 5 or so minutes prior and cant pick up, but youre able to pick up this one from the mannequins hand? maybe im just stupid but i wasnt very obvious to me, given how the hallway/room just seems to end suddenly with other paths closing behind you as well, and the portal gun is literally off to the side of the side, im sorry im not letting that go)

story wise, its alright. it mostly takes the idea from portal 2's plot point and switches them up a little to keep things fresh, but at the end of the day, the same things happen with different characters. you get woken up by a core who tries to take you to the surface, it tries waking up glados, but you end up falling into old aperature where your new sidekick and you try to go up to the surface, where surprise, the core at the start wants to kill you, so you kill him instead! . its serviceable, and its fine

i played this whole thing on my dualshock 4 and i like how all the controller settings are handled by steam input. this made customising them really easy. the gyro support is a bit jittery however for some reason. personally i like to turn up the sensitivity of gyro quite a bit, but it other games its not that big of a deal. here, even with "gyro as mouse" option, it felt jittery, but it could just be cause of frame pacing issues ive had mentioned above. for anyone wondering how was i bhopping with a controller, i set R1 to be jump, and set the mode to rapid fire, and used dpad for movement. its all it took to free up the right thumb so it could be used for the right stick.

despite all of that, id still recommend it though even with all the issues ive experienced because ive enjoyed it a lot regardless.
