The idea behind Depression Quest is something I have no problems with and is fairly solid. Making people aware of how difficult living with depression can be is really important and more people should be aware of it. However it's also important to take this 'game' at face value. It's at the most a choose your own adventure story with minimal end results. The creator made the right choice in releasing it for free, as it has nowhere near enough content to justify a price tag.

Would I recommend people play this game, possibly yes, however for the sakes of the steam review system no. As good as it is, it's very minimalistic and lacks decent content, it's very linear and when playing it makes you feel like actually the choices you make have little effect on the games outcome. It's also really only good for a single playthrough as results become predictable. Im sure eventually there will be a more fleshed out itteration of this game. However now isn't that time.

Words cannot describe the pleasure I gain from playing Bat Rats, so I've used this review which sums up my feelings towards this fantastic experience.

"No game has captured the ever-shifting dichotomy of the predator/prey relationship quite like Bad Rats. This game takes the classic 'cat and mouse' trope and flips it on its head by putting you in control of a band of rebellious rats fed up with their place in the food chain.

The physics are very realistic, almost to a fault, but serve a thematic purpose in their variability, which is that radical movements don't always go as planned, and in a 'david and goliath' situation like the one in Bad Rats, even the forces of the universe are working against you. Plus, the rats look like real rats, at least the ones from my childhood, and the marriage of realistic visuals and complex physics really help to immerse you in the game's universe.

Bad Rats is an undeniable triumph in interactive narrative, and even overcomes the classic story-game pitfall by also being fun to play. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll discover things about yourself, and with its bargain price you have no excuse not to play this gem."
