My first impressions of this game were great. The feel, the art direction, the music... it's all pretty nice. It has a good atmosphere. I really, really wanted to like it, especially since I have an affinity for space, science fiction, and Civ games... but, in the end, I couldn't even get through one campaign. I ended up starting over a few times, and netted about 20 hours in-game before I decided I was going to give up on trying to like Beyond Earth.

My two main issues with the game are:

- It's just a Civ V mod branded as its own separate game. Maybe if this game was DLC for Civ V, or didn't carry the pricetag of a full game, it would have been generally more well-received by fans. They tried to spice things up by giving the player a different variety of resources, different terrains, and so on, but in the end it just feels like a cheap re-skin of Civ V.

- The aliens are way too strong. Imagine barbarians on steriods. Their AI is random and unpredictable... are they going to just ignore you and leave the area, or go on a full-out offensive on you and destroy your new city in ONE HIT? I mean one hit, I'm not kidding. I was hoping there was an option to get rid of aliens all together, or make them weaker, but there are none. You can remove barbarians in Civ V, so why can you not remove aliens in BE?

I'll just uninstall this and play Civ IV or V instead.

This version is COMPLETELY unplayable. Fullscreen mode doesn't work, you can't zoom in on your park (you have to play it zoomed out really far), you have to use the keyboard in-order to navigate around instead of being able to use the mouse cursor, it freezes and crashes constantly... I want to play it so badly, I'm actually considering buying a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ old computer just to play this and Zoo Tycoon. Definitely don't get this game if your computer was bought within the last five years.
