Early Access Review
meh

physics are too bad and unpredictable

serverside movement ruins any skill aspects

not enough depth to be enjoyable

no time limit on rounds means you get to wait around 10 minutes while your friends struggle to revive you, yayayay

good game, good gameplay, it's a very good experience even if it is quite short, but that's understandable, i'd rather have 3 hours of very good content as opposed to 10 hours of mid content

i would absolutely buy dlc for this

A surprisingly fun and entertaining 1v1 FPS. I'm usually not a fan of arena shooters or PvP FPS games in general as they tend to get me really frustrating, but this has been a very pleasant experience. Strong recommend, especially since it's free.

the game would've benefited a lot from focusing more on the linguistics and less on everything else.

the premise is simple. you go up the proverbial tower of babel and learn languages. there's 5 languages across the game, but the language difficulty counter-intuitively kinda peaks at the third one. the fifth language is a joke and it takes only like 3 minutes to figure out all of the words in it once you get over the initial hump.

the languages are all very simple. there are no grammatical cases or prepositions. the sentences never grow in complexity beyond "you give me tool" or "i not like you". this makes the game very accessible to anyone without any sort of linguistic experience but it also makes the core mechanic of the game - linguistics - lack any real depth. it barely educates the player on how different real languages work, and the core puzzle mechanic - figuring out words - remains a gimmick. each language's vocabulary is very limited as well.

the languages don't have any obvious connection to each other. as you move from one area to the next one, anything you learned from the previous language has no bearing on the new one, aside from an occasional plaque where you will see the same phrase written in two languages.

all the words are single glyphs, meaning its much harder to actually remember the words just based on the way they look, which makes you want to rely a lot more on the in-game dictionary and auto-translation feature. you can go through the whole game without really learning any of the languages in it.

there are non-linguistics sequences that basically amount to clunky stealth sections that really break the flow of the game and feel very out of place. they can also get really frustrating. there's a lot of walking. a lot. of. walking.

admittedly, figuring out a language feels satisfying in the moment, but ultimately it left me wanting for a lot more than what was in the game. if you're looking for a game that really goes hard on linguistics - this is not it.

the visual design was really strong. the story was kinda mid. feels like the devs themselves kinda gave up near the end. game could've been a lot more.

A wonderfully abstract, terrifying and hauntingly beautiful trip into the depths of an uncaring universe that makes you feel really small.

remember our promise

one of the best games of the decade that i experienced, and i dont even like survival horror shooters

the story carries this thoroughly
dont bother with the higher difficulty unless you really enjoy this genre, but the story makes it worth playing even on the lowest setting
