So I am on NG ++ right now and I am still shocked that a dev studio came out of literally (pretty much) nowhere and made a game like this. Lies has some rough edges (mostly nits, or things that may require some adjustment - not reworking), but for a first try at a type of game that is easy to make but very difficult to get right, its a miracle.

When I played the beta this summer, I was left kind of unimpressed, wasn't planning on getting it. It came out and everyone was talking about it, so I figured I'd give it a shot seeing as it's the closest I'll probably ever get to Bloodborne on the PC. Took a bit of time (a few hours), and then everything clicked.

It's not Darksouls, Sekiro, or Bloodborne - it's all three. Neowiz's ability to truly understand the core concepts of what makes those games great, put them in the same game, and make it work, is extremely impressive. Also, the PC port is amazing - honestly better than most FromSoft ports up until recent.

Lots of peole have done the full review, so I'm not going to beat a dead horse, but I think one point that is worth emphasizing is that playing the game like its just Bloodborne or just Sekiro kind of misses the point and makes it much harder. Some enemies/bosses work better with the parry system, some just work better with footwork. It seems like they made each a little less forgiving than their inspiration because you have both to work with here, so more options. It's honestly quite brilliant.

One thing I would like for a future installment (or DLC) is maybe some expanded movesets with some of the weapons, or a jump button for some more intricate platforming/combat.

Job well done Neowiz. This isn't a souls-like; its just a souls game made by a different developer. Neowiz gets it. It will be interesting to see if Fromsoft ends up getting some ideas from Lies of P for their future work.

One of the coolest games I've ever played. Oozes style. Feels like someone just took the SCP universe and made a game out of it. Truly excellent. Can't

Ridiculously fun. Storytelling is excellent. I love how lines that are supposed to be delivered in anger (your Psych) are punctuated by a sound effect. I found that on subsequent playthroughs I used the slow-time mechanic less and less since you figure out enemy attack patterns.

Only complaint is its too damn short. I don't feel like they should drop the price or anything, but they should probably put more game out.

I've beaten the campaign on UV, trying Nightmare now. I personally like the new combat loop and find it enjoyable. The game is significantly harder than Doom 2016 (feels like that to me), but it's an enjoyable challenge. The lore is also *really* cool, once you've made it through the whole game.

The only enemy that I think is a little . . . odd . . . is the Marauder that everyone hates. He's a bit overtuned - you can kill him relatively quickly if you know what to do, but "fencing" with him while dealing with a room full of other crap is a bit too tricky at times. I think id should have given some other options for dealing with him, like the pinky (explosion detonated behind him, so the shield won't block, etc.).

I know the combat and game feel is a bit divisive in this game, but I really like it. I like it better than Doom 2016, and I really liked that game, played it to death. It seems if you just embrace the rules id laid down in this game, you tend to enjoy the combat much better, and aren't running out of ammo nearly as much. If you don't want to do that, this may not be the game for you. YMMV.

Watershed moment for VR. Absolutely amazing - playing on WMR Odyssey +. I forgot that Valve used to make video games. Really good video games. The most impressive thing is that everything works - it's not glitchy, it's responsive, it looks amazing. It feels like a finished product.

Not disappointed that they made this VR only, and I was at first.

Edit: Finished the game.

I, I don't know how to explain how excited I am finishing this game. Feels like when I played HL 1 for the first time 23 year ago. It's that good. Totally worth 13 years, if you are a HL fan.

Just brilliant. No other game makes *you* feel like you got better, not just your character, like this game does. The first time I fought Genichiro in the tower it took me . . . more than 60 tries to kill him (I am not a Souls veteran). Most rewarding fight in any game I have ever played when I killed him the first time. Now I'm doing no charm runs. Sekiro isn't that much more powerful now - I'm just a better player.

Masterclass in game design. Hats off to FromSoftware.

EA finally made a game without MTs that is actually good. Figures Respawn did it. Best SW game since Force Unleashed I. Feels a lot like Sekiro, but a bit easier. Beautiful runs decently (few hitches, but still overall good).

Long time DMC fan. I even sort of liked DmC.

This takes me back to when I played DMC 1 and 4 to death (unfortunately never got to play 3). Everything is so polished, so mechanically and technically sound, it's really amazing.

I think the thing that stands out the most (you've heard people just lap praise on this game) is the core gameplay loop - it never fails, and it works here like a charm. The first time I hit SSS with Nero on my second playthough I felt *amazing*. Every dodge, every EX-Max hit, every perfectly timed parry, it feels so good when you pull it off correctly. The game rewards practice and you feel like you got better at the game. The upgrades don't make you more powerful unless you know how to use them - it is just fantastic.

Also, its beautiful, the voice acting and script is superb, sound design and OST is amazing, and I really am happy they brought Nero back (I like his playstyle the most) and made him a mainstay character for the series. He's actually cool in this game, and not an over the top edgelord like in DMC 4. Best DMC game I've ever played and probably one of the best games I've ever played period.

I came into this game excited for the single player campaign -- wasn't too concerned about MP, but I thought snapmap might be cool.

The campgain is everything you could expect in a DOOM game. Fast, gory, brutal, skill-centric. I haven't had this much fun with a FPS in a long time. I've beaten the game on Nightmare (died a lot, but running through the second time with many fewer deaths), and one of the things I like so much is that the difficulty feels fair. Every time I died, it was justified -- I made a mistake (or several) and deserved to get beaten to death with my arms by a Revenant. It never felt cheap, and it never felt like I couldn't fix the mistake.

By the end of my Nighmare run, I felt like a total badass -- dodging and weaving through enemy fire, jumping, spinning, and putting a Gauss round right through a Mancubus' head. It is visceral and awesome.

Also, I happen to like metal, so the soundtrack is AMAZING. I think I actually caught myself headbanging to the combat music while butchering demons. This game delivers on so many levels. The campaign is insanely good, MP sucks, and snapmap is actually pretty cool. I love this game, and it reminds me so much of when I was a kid playing DOOM and DOOM II. Same thing, just with a fresh coat of paint and updated mechanics (where it needs it).

If you are running an older graphics card (I'm on a GTX 780), make sure you crank your card fan up and turn off some of the post-processing effects, otherwise you might have some overheating/crashing problems. I am running on 1920x1080 with everything set at high, and the best AA available (amazingly, it doesn't drop frame rate much at all). Never even a hiccup with this setup.

Rip and tear. Buy this game.
