The Looker truly has to be one of the games released in 2022 so far. Subcreation Studio did a job making the game, and the gameplay was in the game. The game has storytelling and the graphics were animated. The cassette tapes were along with the player and the ending finished the game. The jokes were sentences. This game really is one of the games of all time, if not the last decade.

exceptionally beautiful storytelling. the focus on philosophy, different perspectives, and overall perspective on human nature truly sell this piece.

(Review written without previous knowledge of later chapters.)

Plot: 7/10 - Not very in-depth which I assume is due to the fact that this is the first part in a series, but it still holds up okay. I expect issues and problems related to the story to be solved in the later chapters. The ending is a little anti-climactic, but I assume it will be expanded upon in parts 2, 3, and 4.

Characters: 8.5/10 - Memorable, funny, and cute characters with strong interactions. Sora's interactions with Kakeru are always fun to watch, and Kakeru and Miyako go well together. While it does seem that their relationship is kind of forced, it still works out fine. Side character interactions are all right. Sophitia and Kakeru are occasionally funny together.

Art 9/10 - Art is clean and well drawn. More CGs would be nice, but within generic facial expressions each character is still distinct. Character's design represent their personality well, and between them is a healthy amount of variance. Art is pleasing to view.

Voice Acting: 10/10 - Every character's voice is distinct in variation and great in quality. The mannerisms of each character really shine and no two characters sound too alike. Even the protagonist has a voice, which is nice to see compared to the sea of no-name self-insert MCs you usually witness in VNs. The voices match their characters really well, props to the VAs on this one. (Especially Sora.)

Music: 6/10 - OK soundtrack... Doesn't really excel in anything particular. Additionally, there is not enough variance between tracks. They were fine during the beginning, but as the story continues it feels like I'm listening to the same songs on repeat. More variety would be nice. Also, having generic battle music during tense scenes kills the moment a bit. Quite a shame.

H-Scenes: 10/10 - To my surprise, the H-Scenes in this game are done very well. Many other VNs should take example. Not only is there no loud high-pitched moaning everywhere, but there's also no unnecessary "girl describing what she's feeling" type of dialogue that you usually expect to see. The way that Miyako and Kakeru are mostly silent throughout it all, besides for a few "are you okay?" and "yes, I'm fine." is a breath of fresh air compared to most eroge. Moreover, the reason why they do this actually connects to the story, and I feel it wouldn't be the same without. Even at the very end it's important, so don't skip any of them. On top of all this, every scene has an animation to go along with it. Enjoy.

Overall: 8/10 - While a more meticulously thought out plot and a better soundtrack would be greatly beneficial for the game, I refrain from totally stating that it is missing it, as possibly in later chapters would these issues be resolved. Despite that, this VN was still better than what I had anticipated at first, which is pleasant surprise. I would recommend.
